Greatest World Test Cricket XI (1978 to 2020)

I'm really at a loss at how to choose between Akram and Garner. No top marks for either, more picks for Akram, more 2nd picks for Garner.

Do you want another vote as to what the team requires more? Fast swinging left armer or tall paceman?

I'd say you want the left arm variety and you also get Wasim's batting at eight, good enough to score three Test hundreds including a double.

But I would say that as I voted for him :)

Garner gets in as less people who voted saw him play, so wins on a weighted average?

I didn't vote for either

I think you have to look at the other elements of the quick attack. Are McGrath and Marshall better complemented by Akram or Garner? For me Akram is the slightly better fit.

I had them both in my selection (at three and four no less) so I don't mind.

Bin off the third option and pick Murali instead :)

I don't you can have a realistic looking team which has Shane Warne batting at seven.

And if you've got Shane Warne, why do you need someone else to bowl some of his overs...

No its a straight choice between Akram and Garner based on the teams balance. Curtly fans can vote for Garner if they want as he was the same (as in very tall and very fast) except quicker and better!

I'll take yours and Paddy's answers as being for Akram.

Result tomorrow afternoon

Even though I had Garner 3rd pick and Akram 4th, I vote Akram because of (as DW said) the variety in bowling he gives you

If Akram is selected there's a strong case for Warne being at 10.

I think I get what you are saying. I also think your analogy is unfortunate

That's a relief. A good writer would never have used it, but my mind is not at all creative so if I have a thought I tend to use it even if it is as you say "unfortunate".

Garner for sheer pace to go with McGrath's line and length backed by Kallis. Warne is your alternative there.

Spinner next...

World XI so far....

1. M. Hayden
2. G. Smith
3. V. Richards
4. B. Lara
5. S.Tendulkar
6. J. Kallis
7. A. Gilchrist
8. W. Akram
9. M. Marshall
10. S. Warne
11. G. McGrath
.

Just a captain to chose.

Yeah, Graeme Smith.

Warne has always been touted as a potential great Australian captain but they'd never pick him because of his dickish behaviour. Certainly did brilliantly for Hampshire and in the IPL. But this is a Test team so no.
