Beer

In fact wine is worse as it's worth is entirely dependent on the bit of land that the grapes grow on!

In beery related news. The line-up for the Birmingham Beer Bash next weekend has been published. - http://birminghambeerbash.co.uk/breweries

Still tickets for the Friday evening if anyone is up for it. I'll be there bleary eyed looking for the Bathams tent....

I tend to pay £5 to £10 for a bottle of wine. I have paid a LOT more than that in the past.

The thing is they don't tend to have Chateau Petrus in a pub. The wine by the glass is bog standard (if you are lucky). Wine in a pub is often ghastly. I also find the prices of spirits in pubs nothing short of scandalous.

At the moment there are probably two pubs I go to with any sense of frequency - the Western and the Woodman in Bilbrook. And I like the selections offered. If there was craft beer offered alongside the selection it wouldn't bother me at all, and I would welcome the extra choice there for those that want to use that part of the market. As long as my usual favourites are there too then that is great.

That's pretty much what I'd love to see Paddy. No reason for it not to happen.

In free houses no reason at all. Managed premises for the breweries it might be more of a challenge.

There's still too much stigma attached to keg beer for a lot of free houses to go down that route. This is where CAMRA could help. Could.
Ironically, some of the pubco and tied houses have got the buying power to get BrewDog, Camden Town, Sierra Nevada etc cans and bottles in as part of a 'craft' offering. It's the likes of The Posada, Lych Gate and the trad pubs that are too scared of charging the prices they need to to justify serving it.

That's a problem. If you think that the price is going to put your customers off buying the product then it takes up shelf space that other product could be on, or takes up a pump if it is keg.

Going to take a while for craft beer to break out of the specialist places and become a staple of the pub range, but no reason why it can't happen over time.

Howling Hops - IPA #2
Big West Coast dank IPA. Tonnes of tropical fruit and bitter grapefruit with a big dank savoury cannabis thing going on. Not even a sniff of the 6.9%. Really top drawer stuff, comes pretty close to Axe Edge methinks.

Followed by a black barley wine by Arbor called Argy Bargy. 10.4% big and boozy. Getting rum soaked rasins, liquorice, port and a touch bitter chocolate. It's an absolute monster, and it's completely delicious! Would make a superb cheese accompaniment.

Hops are in the same family as marijuana so it's quite a common attribute in big dank hoppy IPAs. It just adds a savoury herbacious note to proceedings.
You must have been 'smelling' some rubbish weed Johnny if you're likening it to cat piss!

Can't say I've partaken in the herb, but my next door neighbour is certainly a fan!

I was more talking about the 'dank' smelling beer. Not a fan, however the missus does say Titanic Iceberg has a weed smell but I quite like it and it doesn't have the aftertaste of cat piss. I guess my palate isn't as discerning as it should be.
