Aston Villa

Its going to leave them really narrow in midfield and then really wide in the front of the formation. Basically Elmo and Adomah are going to be doing a lot of tracking back. Poster boy Grealish will no doubt want to push into the gap behind Kodjia and then that leaves another whopping gap.

Losing with a quite farcical goal.

1-1, Elphick.

Some truly horrible defending.

Awful defending from Hull on a corner and Villa level

If a pub footballer did what Hull's number 4 did for that goal you'd crucify him. Totally ignored his own man to follow someone else's who was already covered

Not keen on having a thread dedicated to Villa when it’s not talking about their finance trouble.

Okaaay

They are still in the financial shit, and their team is clearly still ancient and useless.

I can't get out of the mindset of wanting villa to lose because it's good for us. The result tonight has no bearing on our season - my brain just doesn't accept it yet

In an ideal world we want everyone else in Midlands football to stay in the Championship while we have a successful first top flight season. We want to be pretty much permanently installed as top dogs. Nothing we can do about Leicester obviously (apart from finishing above them if possible), but the start of the Champ is going according to plan for me.

Well, it really looks like they're making absolutely no attempt to comply with FFP. This is going to be interesting to see how the Football League deal with the blatant disregard for the rules.

Considering Blues were supposed to be under an embargo but signed someone anyway only to be told the FL were 'disappointed', I'd guess that - at worst - they'll send Villa to bed with no supper.

Not that I give a fuck what happens to Villa this season but I'm sure all the Villa fans who were so furious with the way we bent the rules will be most annoyed with their club for not playing fairly.

Both their new keepers look dreadful, which is just lovely.

Also they are being strongly linked with our good friend Sheyi Ojo.

Still signing new players, handing out new contracts and still no sign of any cost cutting. They'll be fucked if they aren't promoted this season. It seems like they’re gambling on going up and paying a huge fine for breaking FFP. If they fail they'll be under a transfer embargo.

Or worse, if EFL don't chicken out.

Only loans though. Dutch guys wages won’t be big and Bolasie probs on 60k like snodgrass was which you can deal with when you’re not paying a transfer fee.

Obviously your fucked after though as you’ve got to give him back and you’re not going to want to buy him/not be able to.

They’ll be up there this year but I hope they get a points deduction for blatant disregard of the rules. They’ll get off with it guaranteed and FFP will be consigned to the bin.

I still think the EFL have cut a deal with the new owners. They are taking the piss, but not signing players for millions. If they were just going to break FFP and gamble they may as well throw millions at it and increase their chances of going up. The fact they seem to be operating to some sort of budget tells me they are working within some set of parameters

You can't when you need to save many millions to even be close to passing FFP - which is their situation.

I know that, but they shed a lot of the big earners off the wage bill. If they sell Kodjia and Grealish in January they’d probably be fine. That would Probably fill a £40m hole.

As TT says, they’ve probably struck a deal. But striking a deal to offset 70m losses takes the piss a bit.

Yannick Bolasie signing for Villa on loan 75k a week plus selection and promotion bonus. Meanwhile Tony Pulis in his quest for another speed freak with no end product has asked Huddersfield about Robin van La Parra.
