“The most intelligent people will see through all the nonsense and realise that we’ve got the makings of a decent team,” Bruce said.
“We’re Aston Villa and the expectation at the club is huge, I understand that.
“But a little bit of common sense is needed because unfortunately it filters through to the mad few.
“The vast majority of supporters are right behind what we’re trying to do.
“You can feel that when you’re in the stadium.
“If they wanted me out the stadium would have erupted before the game. It didn’t.
“They were right behind the team and myself.
“That’s the most important thing.
“Yes, we had a bloody awful performance at Sheffield, it happens.
“Thankfully we’re back on the road again and we’re now into sixth.
“Hopefully it shuts a few of them up but I doubt it.”
“With the people we’ve got at the top end of the pitch, and three out of the four defenders who performed admirably last year, there’s a lot to look forward to.
“It was pleasing to win after all the nonsense that has been said.
“The way to respond is to win.
“As for debates about whether I should be in a job or shouldn’t be, I think my record speaks for itself.”
