Aston Villa 1-0 Wolves: Verdict Thread

Also on the "Taiwan" thing that EP and others were trying to defend this morning.

Do you think it's alright to sing "Two World Wars and One World Cup" at Fabian Hürzeler?

It's not a million miles off, is it. Attack the issue - that they've employed a moron to run our club single handedly when he doesn't know anything about football, and he's clearly been drunk on power for years - not the nationality.

It's not a very nice road to go down. In fact I can't believe anyone does defend it.

Also if you were that fucking upset, then you had the option of not paying him £750+ again this summer.

Im usually up for some positivity but sadly I think its too late. Even if by some miracle we did stay up, what happens next season when Shi thinks everything is going fine?
I agree with the last part. Naivety to say ‘they won’t make the same mistake again’ isn’t it.

We’re 90% down aren’t we, and that’s potentially generous. For us to be in with a decent chance we need a minimum of 8 points from next 6.

Granted me have 2 points in 13….. you wouldn’t bet on us. Sad thing is, I would’ve said last year we had a good chance in all 3 home games. Not this year though

If you're going to wave a Taiwanese flag at Fosun it has to be in 2016 or not at all.

For the record, bring your stained bedsheets saying "Jeff Shi is a cunt and Fosun are dreadful" (preferably with spelling errors or running out of space at the end) for all I care. It's the element of bringing nationality into it that is very uncomfortable.

It doesn't matter whether they're Chinese, Saudi, Icelandic, American, whatever. You start going down that road and it's not very nice territory.

The frustration is aimed at the way the club’s being run, not at anyone’s ethnicity. If someone wanted textbook precision, they’d write an essay on a bedsheet. A flag is just a recognisable visual metaphor that fits on fabric.

What’s actually depressing is the tone on this thread. The sneering at people who’ve bothered to do something, grammar policing, acting like making a banner is beneath you, talking down to anyone who isn’t performing activism in the “correct” intellectual style. It’s unnecessary. You can disagree with how others show frustration without treating them like idiots.

At least they’re trying to express something instead of shrugging their shoulders and hoping it magically improves. Or coming on here and moaning, after moaning at those who were moaning in the summer and could see it coming.

The condescension is more annoying than the flag ever will be.

I get where you’re coming from. Only just seen the flag/banner.

I wouldn’t be suprised the people who’ve done it haven’t clocked it that way and have just linked it to his nationality rather than jt being a racial attack. Albeit it is very uncomfortable and not necessary. Doesn’t matter who Jeff Shi is, his nationality, colour of his skin, etc etc. the fact that he is terrible at his job is all that matters

Right. Where did I do anything along those lines other than saying bringing nationality or race into it is not very nice.

And for the record, you're ok with it?

I wasn’t aiming that at you personally. I was talking about the general tone on the thread, where people are jumping straight to sneering, nit-picking grammar and acting like making a banner is some sort of intellectual crime.

On the flag, I don’t love it, and I’d have picked something else, but I can see what they were trying to say. It’s aimed at the ownership, not a nationality. That is what i am saying.

Id like to think it's poorly channelled motivation rather than outright racism. I think they're trying to push buttons more than anything else, in that they're doing something that will get noticed

Yeah, I don't think "it's a bit racist but it was an accident and it's only because I care" is ok.

Protest is great and I don't think it needs a weight of intellectualism behind it (I mean I just call Matt Doherty a fat useless cunt, how base can you get). This is uncomfortable though and I don't think you should be defending it.

Especially as it seems people have questioned them on the same basis I'm doing now, and they've just doubled down and said "well we're doing it anyway".

Social media edge lords who've been in the replies of everything Wolves related with that "flag", who somehow found the motivation to make it a banner? It's not a reflection on the state of the club, it's a reflection on them. Absolutely disingenuous of poster(s) on here claiming people are critiquing anything else.

Don't need racism anywhere near the club, they can fuck off on the same bus out of Wolverhampton as Jeff Shi.

Well it is because we have six games in December, and I suspect we'll win none of them.

Who are you signing to fix that from 1 January onwards? You'd need Champions League form.

We may well enter the new year on 19 games and two points. Meaning we realistically need 2 points per game for the rest of the season having got that many in total from our first 19.

We're done.

The south bank Facebook page was properly on board with the flag stuff has put a post up explaining why it’s not a racist thing and distancing himself, I’d guess he’s been getting shit in messager about it, the guy who was very proud to have started it and put a long post up about it seems to have turned the comments off on that post as well

Cool, so lets bring some Israeli flags to a match involving Palestininan players, because thats cool, right? Its just a 'recognisable visual metaphor'?

I was very clearly talking about this thread and the way people are speaking to each other, not defending the flag or pretending it isn’t provocative. It isn’t subtle, and it’s not what I would have chosen, but it’s aimed at ownership, not ethnicity.

What I pushed back on was the sneering tone that’s crept in here. The way people are being talked about others is unnecessary. You can criticise the banner without treating anyone who doesn’t frame it exactly the same way as you like they’re part of some racist conspiracy.

It hasn't just been about this banner, it was similar around the open letters too.

If you’re going to accuse me of being “disingenuous,” at least read what I actually wrote.

Where on this thread? I raised it on this page. No-one has said anything like that.

Basically Jeff Shi is a useless cunt because hes a useless cunt, not because hes Chinese. So protest about him being a useless cunt and ignore his ethnicity.

Its not hard, and its not like theres a lack of ammunition. Dont undermine your entire argument by being racist cunts.

If only there was some angle where we could disagree with Jeff Shit without bringing his race into it. Wouldnt that be great?

Then we wouldnt have to 'sneer' about base racism.....
