The Football News Thread 2024/25

I hadn't realised this rule had changed this season. It means less of the silly 11 added mins nonsense at the end of games.

"The average added time per game last season was 11 minutes and 36 seconds, almost double what it was just three years ago.

Again, more stoppages for substitutes is playing a part in that but the ball is also in play now for more minutes than ever before, with an average of 58:12 per game.

But this will likely change again this season, because of a change in the timing of goal celebrations.

Until now time was added on for every second between the ball hitting the net and the kick-off being taken.

Now the clock is only started after 30 seconds. So a game with six goals would have three minutes less of stoppage time."

Yeah I actually really like the "extra" extra time - seeing the board go up with ~10 minutes at the end rather than two or three seems to give chasing teams an extra boost, presumably because it actually feels like enough time to work towards an equaliser/winner. Turns into a kind of de facto sudden death period.

It'd also lead to Rugby style ends where you hold the ball until the clock ticks over the limit, to boot it out of play.

How you’d ever think to get away with that much fucking weed is beyond me

Very quick math, surely that's about 10 suitcases worth. No wonder he was checked

Sir Jack very nearly got rose-tinted specs in 1994 and thought very closely about appointing Cloughie here. Thankfully he didn't as I wouldn't have wanted to see a very ill man in charge.
