Blackburn 0-2 Wolves (FA Cup 4th Round): Verdict Thread

If their goal would have stood, who knows how the team would have responded? You couldn`t safely say we were home and dry after the two goals with that fella between the sticks but we were much more comfortable second half when Doc came on, which only goes to prove how poor Bueno is. Not wishing the lad ill, but I hope we don`t see Hwang for a while. Cunha`s performance only compounds the fact that he will be snapped up in the summer. Good performances from Rodrigo and Agga. Fingers crossed for a decent draw.

Very professional the way we managed the game second half.
The quality gap though between the 2 leagues is freighting and not in a healthy way.
We had just so many better options in midfield and up top and we’re a poor PL side.
Preston, Cardiff or Millwall at home next pls
Kind of 2-0 lead against lower league opposition we would have thrown away under GO

At times I wondered if we'd swapped Toti for Totti! Agbadou is excellent, won POTM for January too. Liked the look of Munetsi, was getting into good positions when attacking and could have had a goal or 2

Johnstone was appalling on the disallowed goal and Bueno looked like a cross between Simon Coleman and Paul Blades again.

Otherwise it was all pretty serene and everyone did alright without having to stretch themselves too much.

Encouraging start by Munetsi.

According to the stats (in first post) we had 6 big chances and missed 4 of them. xG of 1.89 overall.

Just checked the dates and the 5th Round is the weekend of Sat 1st March. Though we will hopefully be on the Sun again as playing on the Sat would be the third game in a week, with Bournemouth (Sat) and Fulham (Tue) the week before. No game after until the following Sat against Everton (H).

Really slow start, I only saw their goal in real-time but it looks like we were fortunate. Thought the ref had initially got conned by the dive too but made a good decision.

Bueno was really bad to begin, Blackburn did target his side and kept getting in behind at first. Dennis looked alright and the other forward Kargbo was very dangerous (surprised they took these two off). Bueno was alright after we scored but even against Championship leve opposition was a major weak link. Hwang was also completely anonymous.

Fortunate first goal followed by a quality second killed the game. I never trusted Johnstone (horrendous kicking) but he actually dealt with it all OK, a lot of routine catches. Maybe it's just because I have zero confidence in him but always felt Blackburn were dangerous from set pieces.

Bueno and Hwang off improved us a lot, Agbadou and Toti were great in defence. They brought on Gueye and he was a bit of a threat, particularly to Doherty but dealt with mostly well as a defensive unit. Joao Gomes performed excellently, but should have taken a shot a couple of times rather than looked for Cunha.

Second half we had a lot of chances should really be burying a couple. Munetsi throws himself about a lot, completely wiped out Batth at one point when Cunha tried to dink the keeper. Finishing wasn't good but we benefitted from someone who could win things in the air and was more physical. He's a different option. Sarabia the opposite and didn't add anything off the bench.

Managed the second half smartly, kept Blackburn quiet so it's a good win.

Definitely onside.

Had it counted then it would have been on Bueno for getting skinned like I would at the age of 44 against Adama, and then Johnstone for some absolutely abysmal "command" of his area.

Yes the way Hyam ran in from behind I'm sure he was on. The defence was way too focused on Batth (who escaped Bueno easily anyway) so we definitely got caught napping and are pretty lucky for once. Very different game otherwise!

When is the draw for the 5th round?

Good news is that is RAN continues how he has been, then he’s an option at LWB. Rather than shifting toti there.

Agba is a proper defender isn’t he. Love it.

Really like Agba. He's exactly what we've needed for a few years now. Not brilliant on the ball but he doesn't need to be. Not sure I've seen such a calm pure defender at Wolves other than Willy Boly.

People get fixated on what players can do with the ball. I’m more than happy for my back 3 (in our case) to be defend as a priority.

He’s hardly terrible on the ball, but as you said what we need. Having competent centre backs should inevitably lead to less chaos

Competent centre backs and a structured system. I know we had a blip but Vítor deserves a lot of credit for how quickly he's implemented his ideas here.

Not a bad recent FA Cup record, especially considering before this season we kept relentlessly drawing Premier League teams in the early rounds.

Lage putting out a stupid team vs Norwich in 2022 was annoying and we got doubly robbed in 2023 at Anfield.

There was one moment where he was under pressure from a Blackburn player then cut on to his other foot to sell him short that I thought was pure Boly. I like him a lot so far.
