Err - that is pretty damn likely to be honest.
It's a coincidence that in a constituency with a large Muslim population the Greens just happened to pick a picture of Starmer with the Indian PM?So you’re assuming that British Indians and British Pakistanis are automatically in conflict whenever India is mentioned?
Oh ffs behaveSo you’re assuming that British Indians and British Pakistanis are automatically in conflict whenever India is mentioned?
Not sure, I think a 'big' name who has been successful as mayor would have pulled quite a few traditional Labour voters back from the edge. Starmer is a pariah currently and colouring everyrhing to do with Labour.Great result for the Greens. Awful result for the Labour and the pollsters.
And thank fuck Goodwin didnt get anywhere near power.
Im also not convinced that Burnham would have done any better. Labour put up a popular local councillor who got done by national unpopularity.
Only because not many people know him outside of Manchester.Burnham is probably the only labour politician who is moderately popular nationally though.
I'd say nationally he's well known for his great work in advancing the Hillsborough cause and his less than great work advancing the privatisation of the NHS. I'd have thought he'd only be behind Reeves, Raynor, Cooper, Starmer, Milliband and maybe Lammy in terms of recognition. More than Streeting for example.Only because not many people know him outside of Manchester.
He seems well liked in ManchesterOnly because not many people know him outside of Manchester.
Keeping it simple, I have always thought Burnham would have a problem with being too northern in key constituencies. Including Midlands. In some ways id like to think he could be the man, but I'm not sure he is. Despite it all, I still think there’s a chance for an ‘economic realist’ in this landscape, but I don’t see an obvious one. Could Al Cairns be a contender? He seems well liked in Manchester![]()
