Wolves v Leeds build up

2nd half Donk and Saiss (in particular) we’re both stepping up into CM to prevent that happening. Has a good benefit of allowing the CMs to operate further forward too.

Yes it's something that is notably different from last season, trouble is a couple of times it has caught us out. Boly against Liverpool getting caught trying to win the ball high up, and likewise against West Ham, when it works it's great. But obviously it runs a risk.

We do need to be more pro-active though to get players involved further up the pitch. The downside is it can leave us open at the back. Ideally we would rotate so either Coady & Saiss or Donk stay back, possibly with the opposite WB.

Saiss stepping up and winning the ball looked really good against Saints and helped creative some fast attacks too. Donk doesn't seem as good as it. In fact its just occured to me that Donk is almost a downgrade on Saiss in almost every way - rather worrying...

Donk hasn't had a good season has he, definitely dropped off a fair bit from last season.

Saiss is regularly ear marked as someone we need to replace, but as a squad player he is versatile and consistent, he also seems to have a really good attitude. I think we should keep him as long as we can.

Also worth noting that he has stopped getting silly bookings too, the one against Southampton the other day was his first of the season.

I think Saiss is unfortunate in that he plays in the two roles this team desperately needs real ability in to progress. Definitely a great squad player, and along with Coady I suspect is a big part of the heart of this team at its best

I’m sure we will take the Saiss year option and then he will stay if he’s willing to be a squad player. If not then we will get a couple of million for him I’m sure and won’t stand in his way.

Whether we keep him the year after or let him go on a free will I guess be down to where we are at progression wise or if he wants to move on.

I’d say the same is true of Donk, both of them can play centre mid and centre back, but neither of them are outstanding there.

Given they are probably the two positions most of us see as the priority to upgrade this summer, I’d sell one of them at the end of the season and keep the other as cover.

Saiss as a CM is a red herring surely, don't think he's played there at all in the last 18 months?

We'd get next to nothing for Saiss, he's 31 next month. May as well keep him.

I see Coote is ref.......mind you it doesn't matter, after Sundays over the top rants concerning the two incidents, we are getting nothing from the officials any time soon

"On team news/Boly/Podence: "They're improving their injuries. They started some training but are not available for this game."

Sounds like they will be close to returning next week then

Yep, and with Raul back in full training we could have a full compliment by the Villa game. (with Raul likely managed back in a similar way to Jonny)

Raul's not back in full training. Just doing the fitness drills etc with the 1st team.

If we use Jonny as an example, he did 2 weeks of that before joining full training and then a week or so of that before he was suddenly back in the team.
Can't see Raul being that quick but there is a chance, if everything is ok he could be close when we come out of the break we are having in March. I guess on Raul's injury there is a lot to tick off before he can return.

That said, I claimed Jonny wouldn't start v Leicester, so what do I know

I guess the thing with Raul is, fractured skulls don't tend to recur (?) in the same way that knee injuries do, so he may actually be back quicker?

The big thing for Raul, obviously will be that first header, that first elbow he receives, the psychology of it all etc.

Nobody knows how long Raul will be until he's told he can safely head the ball and then actually does so. He could still be weeks or months off that for all we know and then are there after affects from it either physical like headaches or psychological?

The fitness work he's doing at the moment bears little relation to the injury he suffered.

19th February 1958, Wolves 3 Leeds2, we were champions that season. Oh, it was the day i was born, can lightening strike twice ? If it can , i will have a very happy birthday.

Hate to break it to you but we are not going to be champions this season.

Phillips is out for Leeds, they've lost 4/5 he's missed this season. Palace, Leicester and Arsenal all scored 4
