Wolves v Arsenal [Tue 6pm BT Sport 1]

Mate... I think the club have possibly been guilty of a little hubris and belief in our own exceptionalism (this season has hopefully left us chastened in this regard), but thinking points aren't important is a whole new level of complacent
I didn't say that points aren't important. I said I don't expect us to get any! But, losing to a team like arsenal isn't going to have as much of an effect on our season as compared to losing to Fulham, WBA, CP etc

I can see it now. The excitement will grow throughout the day, as the game gets closer. The team news will come in - then the match will kick off, and within 10 minutes - we’ll have 11 players behind the ball and we’ll be giving it to Neto or Podence and asking them to run 40 yards up the pitch to put a cross in for Jose.

I’ve read a lot of talk this week from Nuno & co about what’s wrong and what we need to do differently - but we all know it’s likely to be the same old tactics and style.

We’ve got to the point now where we just need to shithouse a win any old way - and the sooner the better. Hopefully that happens tonight!

You literally said you weren't bothered by the game and losing would have very little impact. I'm not even selectively quoting you! 😂

We can't just shrug our shoulders when we play teams above us in the table and concentrate solely on those below us. There's only six of them and we've only beaten two!

Exactly. And the sides below us will see matches against us as an opportunity for them to close the gap. We're also extremely beatable at the moment. Our best hope for points at the moment is to catch a side with nothing much to play for on an off day - someone in and around the middle of the table - like Arsenal...

although tbf, the middle of the table is so congested that anyone in that middle pack will feel they have an outside chance of a European spot. So it makes it even more difficult!

I had to embellish my response because you didn't seem to understand the point I was making.

I say again, I'm not saying the points don't matter - I'm saying that I don't expect us to get any. It's not a question of choosing games to concentrate on either. It's being realistic with my expectations - we've collectively debated why the team aren't performing over the last few weeks and have struggled to come up with a way to fix all that.

My expectation is that we won't fix all of that tonight, I hope we do - but I have absolutely nothing in reality to base that on. Thus, why would I be annoyed about something that I think will happen? We've kind of predicted it by pointing out all of the flaws in the team, the poor transfer windows, players being asked to do things they can't, goals in the team not being replaced etc etc etc.

To go into tonight expecting anything other than a defeat is setting yourself up for a disappointment. I say again, I hope we win - but I just don't see how we can.

Now, if we were playing a team I thought we might be capable of getting a result against I'd have a very different mindset.

On your logic we should fail to win a game for the rest of the season.

I still don't! And I'm not entirely sure you do either 😉

You're talking about expectations all of a sudden, but initially you were literally saying you weren't bothered and it didn't matter?

Like Tony I don't want to drag this out so if I've misinterpreted your original intention apologies xx

Expectation = we'll lose
Hope = we'll win
In reality = a loss to arsenal doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things

So, I'll put a £5 on arsenal to win but I won't be backing wolves to get relegated

While we are in a bad spot that hasn't changed for some time Nuno may well "have a go" but I feel he likes to manage games. Whilst I think it will be Chelsea all over again I would like us to go 442. (this is why they don't ask me)

Patricio
Samedo Boly Coady Hoever
Traore Neves Vitinha Neto
Silva Jose

Puts on double thick tin hat.
The drift is attack lose the massive gap between midfield and attackers. Give the two strikers the chance to get in the box and unleash Traore. Maybe the full backs would be risky but it might help in their defensive duties if they dont have to get so far up when attacking not that they do.

Obviously wont happen

Edit: thats a diamond

thats pretty much the team I'd go with apart from Podence instead of Silva and Donk/OO instead of Vitihna......and Semedo/Hoever the other way round.........so nothing like your team, haha

I've thought about 442 quite a bit tbh. I feel like we'll get the best out of Silva if he's got somebody doing the heavy lifting next to him, Neto and Traore are obviously both really comfortable at getting chalk on their boots and crossing. Midfield two is the only worry, especially with who we have to choose from, I'd probably go Neves and Donk.

I genuinely have no idea why you support Wolves it's just one long stream of misery and disappointment for you.

Why would you do something that makes you so miserable?

Ruddy
Hoever Boly Kilman Semedo
Otasowie Neves Moutinho
Podence Willian Neto

Assuming RAN & Saiss are still injured

Rui
Boly Coady Kilman
Hoever Semedo
MGW Neves
Traore Willian Neto

Think Semedo might get targeted on the left though, he was caught out a couple of times vs Chelsea when he was asked to switch but seemed more at home vs CP despite the result. I realise he is only a stop gap - need to play to his stengths and get him going forward.
