Almost forgotten Wulfrunians - Jeremiah Mason (1828-1905) was a town councillor for Blakenhall ward who became an alderman right at the end of his life. He owned and was licensee of the Kings Arms in Dudley road, Blakenhall, which is where the Wolverhampton Wanderers football club met when it was first established.

His son Charlie Mason became Wolves' first England International player. He lived just a few doors away from his pub, in a house which is now Shawarma & Grill. He owned a tinplate works and a japanning works and various plots of land in the area, some of which was sold to build St Luke's church and school. On his death Jeremiah's estate was worth £6265 2s 1d - £1 in 1905 would be the equivalent of about £150 today, so it was a huge sum. Mason street was named after him.

This came up on my Facebook feed, and in other wolves history, St Luke’s church is having its bells removed from the tower to be refurbished

It was to be the last time they appeared against each other on a football pitch. Wolves won 1-0. 3 days later Peter made his final appearance for Wolves in a 3-3 draw vs Forest at Molineux.

During their footballing career, Cyril and Peter played against each other on seven occasions. They met four times in the First Division and also encountered each other in both the F.A. and League cups. Overall honours were even as Cyril and Peter were both on the winning side on three occasions.
