Wolves / Covid-19

Can't ask for any more than that from Jeff. Ticks every box

Personally I think they should just call it all, scrap the euros and start again after summer as if it had never happened.

Award Liverpool the title, they can call themselves champions if they want but you can't legitimately promote Albion/Leeds or relegate Villa/Bournemouth at this stage. Nowhere near set in stone and there's no way there's enough time to get these fixtures played without impacting on the start of next season.

Sucks for some clubs. Leicester, Albion, Leeds, Chelsea, even us with our Champions League aspirations but you know what? There's no way you can make everyone happy in this situation.

Disagree with just about everything in this post, if this is the way it’ll be the PL will spend years defending legal battles.
If Norwich and Villa go into thrive in years to come it’ll forever be tainted from this outcome.
The attitude of well it’s just tough shit after 75% of the season is ludicrous and very hypercritical.

What is the moan?

He doesn't mention the fans that went to Athens, and then references the fact that Manchester United have reimbursed travel costs of those that were supposed to go to LASK.

When pressed, he then confesses he didn't go to Athens, and never bought a ticket.

It's so bizarre.

Finish the season off when football can start again, be it May, July of November. Then have a short break and start again, if time is short just play each team once, with a draw to decide which teams you play at home and away.

I'm sure there was much jollity in Athens even allowing the circumstances. Nice that the staff will be paid during the closure but it serves no purpose unless they continue to self isolate away from the public. Strange days ..

It’s their idea to align the calendar ready for the crooked FIFA farce in Qatar, while not losing their brand spanking new nations league I guess.

Maybe we should just let Lawro predict the results each week that games are cancelled and add those points to the table - our chances of Europe would be screwed, but the season would end on schedule. Garth Crooks could also still do his team of the week, with Maguire and Fernandez ever-present no doubt.

If you agree that football will, eventually, restart, I don’t see why you wouldn’t just finish the season at that point, whenever it may be.

The August-June football season is not created by nature (or God!). It’s just a human creation. It can be modified accordingly.

I’d really struggle with the sporting legitimacy of starting a new season without concluding the prior season. Let’s play games in the correct order, albeit however delayed they may be.

I’d much rather see the season finish and lose the international tournaments until the programs find a way of getting back to where they were. I don’t want Champions who have only played 29 games, I don’t want anybody not getting relegated, I don’t want us not knowing where we would rightfully end up. I’d much prefer to just leave everything on hold until this shitty virus is gone and then resume where we left off. The multi-country Euros and Qatar bollocks can do one.

This for me too, season has to finish.

If it means future seasons start in November & ends in August so be it

Is there any legal stuff regarding ending the leagues early, I mean if what people above are saying happens could you see a prolifery of sueing, counter suing etc. etc. I know a club gas to be capable of completing a season but does the league have to supple a season to complete ??

PL can do whatever the PL votes to do. It's rules are decided by it's shareholders which are the current 20 sides and needs a minimum of 14 votes to carry. They'd have to come to an agreement with their broadcast partners, but are likely to tell the FL to sue them if they don't like what they decide knowing full well they couldn't afford to

People using the 1939-1940 season as a comparator are missing the point. War broke out after (I think) 3 league games had been played. It's far easier to abandon that as null and void than when 75% of the season has been played.

I have a lot of confidence that this season will finish, probably in the Autumn. There will be a champion, European Qualification will be decided, and Aston Villa will be relegated.

I don't think there will be a summer transfer window, and expiring loans and player contracts will be automatically extended to cover to the end of the 2019-20 season, whenever it finishes. The window will then open until the next season starts, and FFP calculations will apply from that window.

Agreed - I don’t see why people are so desperate to not play football.

I don't think you can force out of contract players to stay past 30 June if they don't want to. They could have already sorted out a move elsewhere in principle.

I think these are exceptional circumstances as you could rule the player CANNOT play for the new club he is moving to until the new window opens. Everything moves back a few months. Not the end of the world, and perfect solutions are hard to find.
