I agree, they see the updates on twitter if we have lost it's 'whats the point in spending all the money on the academy for us to have results like this.' etc.

Fact is, if a player as good as Iorfa comes through, then it's better than us winning any youth competition.

For all we know the other teams could have physically stronger teams in their set up, or mor experienced players which would clearly affect the results. Our players will learn a lot more than the ones they are facing through that challenge.

A lot of those who moan about the u21s not winning all the time are probably exactly the same if they have children playing in grassroots football. It's that type of thinking we need to move away from (which we slowly are).

Its a learning process for them - the U18s lost to Middlesbrough 7 - 1, but came back to win the next 2 games with the last being a 3 - 2 win over Newcastle with 2 goals in the last 5 mins.

I had a discussion with a fairly sensible poster on Twitter and I was saying that if 2 or 3 from each group made the first team that would be a tremendous return and he said it would prove that the academy is a waste of money.

I'd love to know the breakdown of what the £2.25m budget is spent on and how much of that we get from other sources, such a sponsorship and central funding.

Another funny one is the people slagging off the academy are also wetting themselves over Iorfa.

Having one player a season come through is considered brilliant by most of them, thats probably £10m a year you don't have to spend on filling that position

Agreed. I think a lot has been made of Southampton's success with their academy (rightly so) but anyone with a level head should be able to tell quite easily that they are extraordinary.

Given our record of late (Batth, Iorfa, Price, Evans, even David Davis to some extent) all within the last three seasons, I think we've done remarkably well in terms of both scouting and development at the youth level.

When you look at the qualities of both Batth and Iorfa both seem to be playing catch up regards the quality of their passing. Something during their teenage years that should have been worked on more by themselves and the coaches.

Batth perhaps, Iorfa I don't see it. I think he's a pretty good passer of the ball. I'd like to see him pass into the forward's feet more often but I don't think it's a technique thing.

Ortega, like Torras last year (without the work permit issues mind) is probably still adapting to the way Wolves do things and English football in general. It must be extremely different to being at Barcelona!
