Wolves Academy Thread

2-0 up at HT tonight vs Brighton, Wilson and Nazon the scorers.

Team is: Lonergan; Iorfa, Johnson, Williamson, Breslin; Armstrong, McKenna, Gibbs-White, Carnat; Wilson, Nazon.

Really would like to see Breslin given a go at some point, he actually bothers sprinting when he has to chase back after we lose the ball.

Encouraging (if only slightly) that the two forwards have the goals.

I'd give Wilson a go in the first team. He's doing very well for the U23's.

Ennis back in training. Reckon he could make a first team appearance before the end of the season if he starts well for the U23s.

Norwich vs Wolves under23

7 - Wolves with the brighter start, three early corners survived by #NCFC.

13 - Wolves still on top, Wilson lashing the best chance well wide from 15 yards. 0-0

22 - Far from a classic, too much loose passing from #NCFC so far, not had a chance, but still 0-0.

28 - Best chance so far, Nazon with a low shot from 25 yards, but Aston Oxborough holds easily enough for City. 0-0

31 - Wolves left-back Anthony Breslin booked for diving, trying to win a penalty, going over a Louis Ramsay challenge in the box. 0-0

37 - Wolves running out of puff & #NCFC players have woken up, Efete demanding they keep the ball better, no threat in final 1/3 tho. 0-0

GOAL for Norwich U23s, Cantwell44 -

Herc had just hit the post for Wolves but Jaiyesimi cross from right, bad clearance & Cantwell there to fire low shot from 12yrds. 1-0

Two further goals to Norwich during first five minutes of second half.

3-0 at 50 min.

58 - Wolves have lost their heads. McIntosh dinks a cross in from left & Jaiyesimi heads low & across the keeper into far side of net. 4-0

...Donovan Wilson got behind Oxborough, only to fire over an unguarded net.

71 - Not happening for Wolves, Wilson through, shot saved by Oxborough & loops high, looks in but bounces off base of post into GK arms.

74 - Loose play from Wolves, Cantwell nicks possession in their box and fires a low shot under keeper into bottom-left of net. 5-0.

Full-time: Norwich City U23s 5 (Cantwell 44, 50, 74, Adams 48, Jaiyesimi 58) Wolves U23s 0. #NCFC qualify for last 16 of Premier League Cup.

Bad weekend across all levels.

U18PL Results,

Ennis back in the squad.

I'm going tonight so will report back.

Good to see Ennis fit again - would be great to see him involved in the first team soon. With him, Graham and Cav all to return, we really should have more of an attacking threat.

Though looking at that squad, it'll mean no Bright or MGW at Ipswich tomorrow.

Decent looking 11, that. Hopefully Ennis comes through unscathed from the bench

I'll sort out a blog tomorrow, Burgoyne is not very good.

Odd game for him really. Didn't have a great deal to do. Infact I can only think of 3 things per half when he was noticed. First half he made to 2 dominant catches from crosses and one awful kick when he was looking to release Wilson quickly for a counter (which came from one of his good catches). 2nd half, woeful attempt to save the shot that leveled the scores. Shot was straight at him and such weak wrists he basically palmed the ball in the net. Should have come for the cross that eventually led to the foul for the penalty. Exact same type of cross in the 1st half we was out claiming (had no chance with the penalty though). Finally another woeful attempt at a quick pass out to set up a counter.

Plusses from last night - Our defence looked organised, full backs were very good, Herc and Gibbs-White excellant, Donavon looking good and Bright is simply too good for the U23 level now. He is going to learn or gain nothing more at that level. Infact we fell to pieces when we subbed him.
Our goal was quality. Villa free kick, we clear and Gibbs-White gets on the ball, holds off the challenge and breaks free and then plays a lovely ball between the full back and centre half for Wilson to run onto and such a lovely calm finish from him.
Should have finished 2-2. Right at the end the ball fell to Simpson 5 yards out, Villa keeper was nowhere, it just needed to be passed into the goal and he scuffed it badly and it rolled back to the keeper who was still sat on his arse from his failed attempt to take the cross we put in.

Our wingers were dreadful though and our the majority of our set plays were stunningly bad

Cheers Kenny, sounds promising. Villa tend to have very good youth teams so good to see we were competitive. Were the wingers Collins and Delacoe?
