Wolves Academy Thread

Yeah, exactly. Teams hardly send out press releases saying "Shitbob Utd snap up journeyman striker" or "Ragarse Rovers take wild stab in the dark on unknown kid".

You've clearly never read an E&S story when a player they have never heard of is signed

Fulham were as good as anyone in England in the forward positions at youth level last season so maybe the opportunity to break through was limited.

Good luck to him. Declan must've impressed KJ to come along on the tour.

Never heard of him. What position is he?

As in our ex-defender Rob Edwards?

Rob Edwards has a good idea of what the club is all about. Sellars is a catch as well; hopefully this leads to a better season for the 18s and 21s. It's good to finally see people who have played at a level worth shouting about coaching our youth teams.

But you have no idea what they coach like? You were ready to jump all over Weaver and Halsall but now you think Sellars is a catch, based on what?

(I'm not saying they won't be good for the club by the way).

Is that Scott Sellars? (can't get twitter so link is useless)
If so he was the Manchester City Accademy coach from 2009 to 2014 and only left because of his concerns about the lack of home grown players and must be a decent coach to of held such a high profile job

That's all I'm saying really. I'm hoping they'll be better for the club than Steve Weaver and Mick Halsall. Someone who matters as far as Wolves is concerned agreed with me about them - they were both sacked.

I'm not sure about better, just different. Mick Halsall is credited with bringing through and developing some very good talent at Walsall (Dann, Fox, Gerard, Bradley) and Weaver has had a hand in developing Price, EEL, Davis and McAlinden. So they aren't bad coaches it's more like they didn't fit the new way of developing players, which is understandable.

I know nothing about Sellars but he comes with a good reputation and whilst Man City have only brought 1 player through their academy over the last 4 years I'm sure he's a fine coach.

The thing is, with all of the big money signings at Citeh is it really the best place to work if your objective is to bring through youth players? All of the ones who do show any promise seem to be farmed out on loan very quickly.

All that's really left to say is good luck to them both.
