Wolves Academy Thread

Oh I understand fully. How long can they keep on losing without affecting the mentality amongst the squad? We're not looking to produce losers. They need to win at some point. The youth policy is central to the club's future plans; I'm afraid Weaver is not delivering. 1 win in their last 6 or whatever it is? Unacceptable as far as I'm concerned. I'd be amazed if his contract is renewed at the end of the season after the dismal results he's been getting.

You can laugh or say that it's "not about results", but it is as far as Morgan is concerned.

I'm not sure you do understand that much about youth development TBH Andy. Nurturing not just young professional footballers but young adults really isn't about the result after 90 minutes of development matches.

Indeed. Obviously you want to create a winning mentality but developing them as footballers is the key. This will be a good experience for some of the younger players who have come in to replace the likes of Ismail, Doherty, Davis, Mclinden, Price in the u21s. We are looking a few years down the line anyway for the next generation benefitting from the clubs category 1 status

You do know that for virtually every professional outfit results are secondary to development at every level from the under 9s to the reserves?

A lot of our old U21 squad have been moved on or promoted into the first team. I'm not surprised that we're not winning as many as last year, it must be nearly impossible to replace a player of Jack Price's quality at that level. All U21 teams have peaks and troughs, as long as they continue to develop players the way they have been we'll be fine in the long run.

And with that last sentence you prove you know very little about player development. Did you see the game? Have you a set of appearances with data or viewed with your own eyes how players have performed?

Do you know only 8% of youth footballers make more than 2 seasons in the pro game? So you look at your results and for a man who relies on data for your assumptions you have very little to go on so are assuming a lot without any facts.

As YW said we may be in a down period of youth development where the talent just isn't in the club. Not unusual and there are lots of stats to tell you that ALL academies fail because they do not play for themselves in the long run. Wolves may class theirs as a success as Jack Price, EEL, Doherty, Hennesey, Ikeme and McAlinden have all come through the system to make 1st team.

So tell me again, how do results affect player development?

Whether you think wins/losses matters at youth level, the fact is that we seem to be losing a lot because we play shit football at youth level (every time I've watched, at least).

Careful there. Seems to me that making the first team isn't enough to be a success; but rather positively contributing to it.

Thanks for the advice Al.

An academy produces footballers for first team football, your positive contribution measure isn't even a stat the player can effect. That depends on the manager. And how many games have you watched at reserve(U21) and youth (u18) level?

The u18's drew 1-1 with Manchester City earlier on today, Regan Carthey scored our goal.

My friend thought he might be playing but didn't, is back there next week and I think they may have game against Burnley or something.

I didn't mean to come off as condescending, I apologize if I did.

All I mean is that you can graduate player on player on player from youth to senior team, but if they just barely cut it at that level, how useful is the academy in reality? Not very, for my money.

I've watched every time there's been a stream available, i.e. every Liverpool or ManU match, and the odd Man City or Spurs match. Granted, we generally would be thought outmatched by these teams, but the way we set up against them is far too negative.

Against Bolton

Squad: Flatt, Burgoyne, Kellerman, Kostrna, Cranston, Hause, Tank, Bancessi, Jakobsson, Torras, Whittall, O’Hara, Davis, Forde, Erdie, Keita, Reid.

I wonder why we are doing poorly because, that to me, looks a decent squad.

Decent by what measure though? I doubt Kellerman, Kostrna, Cranston, Tank and Whittall will make 10 senior appearances for Wolves between them. O'Hara and Forde are shit.

Weaver's tactics sure don't help anyone out, especially guys likr Forde who have been shunted out of position.

Davis is decent and Keita, Reid, Bancessi, Hause, Erdei and Torras have potential by all accounts. Haven't seen enough of any of them or the U21 league to know how good they are though. I'd wager we were better with Price, McAlinden, Ismail and Evans in there last season.

Good for Anthony. Dunno why but I really want him to do well.

Maybe it's cuz Dan slates him all the time.

I doubt I've mentioned him more than ten times in the past year. He is shit anyway.
