As much as I’ve moaned about as not creating/looking like scoring, you can’t really say that when we’ve just won 4-0 Andy!
Its not Bruno’s or the teams fault we went 3-0 up without getting out of second gear and then the opposition showed no real desire/had the ability to try and pull it back.
The first Hwang has a 10 yard touch and bizarrely neither Watford player clears it and he’s allowed to just run through, good pass and finish though.
The second we work a good opening and actually put it on the box this time which means lucky things can happen. Yes the cut back is the same as most and the defender is there to just hoof it away but it hits Cucho and goes in. Yes it’s lucky but as I said if you get near the opponents goal and ask questions then mistakes can happen. If you turn and pass it back as you havent got people in the box they don’t.
The third is just a routine backpass. He takes a heavy touch but he’s still well in control on his strong foot. Just put it in the stands or at least get a decent contact.
Probably none of those goals go in against semi competent opposition and we might have had to work harder for the result but they did so we didn’t have to, we saw out the game.
As TT said it was the same Palace. They dominated the first half but the first goal is a decent move with a huge dose of luck and the second is a comedy of errors. But Both times they asked the question. They then see the game out.
We might not have been peppering the goal and been a well oiled attacking force but we didn’t need to be. If we ask similar questions of a terrible Everton defence then we might get the same “luck” on Sunday.
I only saw up to the 2nd goal and then the highlights afterwards but this lines up pretty well with what I was thinking from my limited info. I don't think any of those first three goals are classics and they all have a bit of good fortune involved but I think it shows that things are more likely to go your way with a bit of intent, even the 4th has hints of it in the build up prior to the tidy finish. If you force the issue and give your opponents decisions to make then you're more likely to push them to make a bad one or even get a lucky break.
I thought the same on Hwang's touch with the first, looked heavy but the fact he was trying to be positive and push into that space anyway meant he got away with it, caught Watford's defence flat footed and then a good pass to create the goal. Decent exchange of passing up to that point too and good to see Jimenez carried on with his run to get into the box.
Second could've gone the way of so many wingback lead attacks, Jonny got it on the overlap but hesitated with the cross and cut back inside, we've seen that end up back with Coady in two passes many times. Gets a decent ball into the box though and the late run from RAN ends up again showing what a bit of intent does. It's a weak attempt to put it back across the goal but with the defender chasing back to his own goal he ends up putting it past his own keeper. You'd like to think if you had the wingbacks firing early balls across the box you might get more of those defensive accidents, like Keane the other day against Spurs.
Third is pure Foster fuckup, he could easily lump it first time but has a wank touch and then fluffs it when Jimenez isn't even that close to him.
On the fourth was nice to see Chiquinho so such desire to get into the box after his first involvement, similar to RAN on the second, and provide more presence up there. Early ball in from the wingback when played through too, no chance for the defence to get setup. Silva had the chance too with Neto firing across early after beating the fullback.
Probably to difficult to judge too much when you've gone so comfortably in front so early, it's going to quench the thirst somewhat and reduce the need to really push. The more relaxed second half some have complained could easily be a symptom of that, you'd like to think there would've been enough resolve to continue on the front foot if it had taken longer to get the breakthrough.
Here's to hoping the penny has dropped and they can continue to assert themselves on games and see what falls their way as a result.
