Interesting how Daniel Podence seems to be following the same path as Donk and, I suppose, Adama. Signed, and then seemingly taught to play the way Nuno wants.

I'm not so sure about this, with Donck there were times when he didn't even make the bench or get a shot when we were in a poor spell in the Autumn in 2018. Adama got plenty of pitch time, it took him most of that first season to adapt though.

Podence is the 4th choice wide player in a formation we are using about 50% of the time. Other than token substitute appearances I don't know when else he's going to get used in games are are controlling. If you look at the 3 games in the last week we've scored the opening goal around the 60-75 minute mark and then looked to close the game out. Realistically I don't see when he could have come and played any meaningful minutes in those situations. He's waiting for an injury or for us to need to chase a game.

Would presume if they do sack Smith, they will go JT for the final few games then work it out based on the Division they are in.

If they do stay up they certainly have the financial ability to temp Poch. However we scoff at the idea they do have money behind them. Just currently clueless with it.

It can’t be easy they’ve had years of being top dogs in the region unchallenged and had the ability to patronise and head ruffle the fans of the clubs around them. That’s evaporated in the space of a few years.
Also doesn’t help a good chunk of their fans having a clear memory of the early 80’s when they were very successful.

They won the European Cup 38 years ago. You'd need to be in your mid 40s to remember that. The arrogance gets passed down through the generations. Lack of understanding of their real place in the football hierarchy exists at a few clubs, Villa, West Ham and Newcastle being the most deluded and entitled.

There was a villa fan on the south bank Facebook page,saying we are a tinpot club that hasn't won anything of note since 1979,and even then it was only the league cup,league 1 and the championship don't count apparently,but bet they'd be ecstatic with romping the championship right now

I think that is EXTREMELY unlikely. Dyche is a possibility as he is clearly properly pissed off with the Burnley board. I doubt he would drop into the Championship though.

Villa have won one league title in 110 years. You have to go back to 1909/10 after 1982.

Their last FA Cup was 1956/57.

If it was "only" the League Cup in 79/80 probably best to write off their wins too.

It honestly baffles me how highly they view themselves, they dominated pre World War I in n 16 side leagues, congratulations.

Many fans of other clubs bang on about us shouting history and harking back to the Cullis days. Bar anyone who watched that one league title and European "night in Rotterdam" Villa have been a bit quiet on the trophy hunt. Anyone who watched their previous title wins was probably dead before I was born. And I am old.

They're not massively relevant either if you're from the northern parts of the city, or further in that direction. The "Staffordshire Derby" game v Stoke is probably more relevant for a chunk of people too. It tends to more a bit more from the Black Country side, but even then they're not Albion.

When I was growing up (admittedly a long while ago) in Dudley, don't remember any Villa fans among my peer group (or their dads) it was either Wolves or Albion, that was the only rivalry and even then it was just good natured banter

I always remember it being a bit of gentle respect and we both hated the other two. Xia, Bruce and Wyness changed that a bit. But they are all gone. For me, they are just another team to beat.
