Wolves 2 v 1 Liverpool: The Third Round Verdict

Very impressed with Vinagre, again, impressed with Dendoncker and very pleased for John Ruddy. Just glad he doesn't bite his nails. Raul was once again everywhere, great to see Jota back, the closing down of Milner and then winning the loose ball showed his usual tenacity, the run to block off Milner showed a lot of strength and intelligence. Neves goal was a beaut.

Hard to fault the lads after that win, but we used up a lot of get out of jail cards that in PL matches could easily have seen us pointless

What a roller coaster of a season this is. Everyone did well tonight and we didn't once look second best (not that we should have, against that side). Good to see Neves back to something like his old self. Jimenez is looking more worthy of his price tag lately too. A nice confidence booster for the City game.

Fully merited that. It was a slow first half hour (Jenas is a fucking moaning cunt though) but generally we were in control, they've had the goal, the free kick and...not much else.

Jota was excellent in his time on the pitch and it's great to see him back to his best. Jimenez was my MOTM but Ruddy (for the save alone), Vinagre, Boly, Neves and Moutinho were all superb too.

We picked the right team, we absolutely should be having a go at the cup this year. When the draw was coming out I just wanted to avoid City, don't care about anyone else.

A few comments about "having the old Ruben back" in respect of his shooting, but I see the man himself puts it down to the fact they use Mitre balls in the FA Cup (I believe the PL ball is Nike)!

Oh and a note for the officials. When you have VAR you're supposed to let tight offside calls go when someone's in an attacking position and if it gets pulled back later then so be it. Twice Jota was played in not far outside the box and was wrongly flagged.

Marvellous win. Only managed to watch the last 25/30 minutes but what a match and result.

Say we win this, do we get a europa league spot?

Yes we do (you also used to if you lost the final and the winners had already qualified for Europe, but not any more).

There's a bit of opening here but it only takes the draw to pull us out vs City away or whatever and the dream is over :icon_lol:

Clearly we should beat Shrewsbury or Stoke with plenty to spare.

Check out Dendonker for the opening goal, sprinting from inside his own half, one hand in the air screaming for the pass, both hands go up and then Jimenez scores

I did wonder who that was live. Then seen who it was when Jimenez went and celebrated with him.

Just seen Klopps post match interview on BBC website. I like the guy but he has started chatting shit too much.

No Nuno interview on there so if anyone could oblige with a link please.

Just seen the Jiminez chance again when he went round the keeper. I wondered what had happened watching from The NB, but watching it again he did great and the for some reason used the outside of his right rather than just tapping it in with his left.

And once for Liverpool too. Agreed.

Yes, that's my only criticism of Raul, that he does not use his left when it falls to that foot. He could so easily have added a third goal and killed off the game for he had done the hard work, then fluffed the final tap-in. But that is minor compared with the superb way he plays. I thought he was magnificent tonight, as was Neves, Jota, Dendocker, and Ruddy. I also thought Caveleiro played with more zest than usual. And when Docherty came on, we seemed very secure. Oh how times have changed and how I've had to eat my words about Matt since the Leicester game. Let's hope we get to Wembley a second time this season and win yet again.

Well thats a nice start to this years cup. Piss off a few scousers who have been rattling their sabres in my direction over the last 16 days. It will be nice to have a bit of peace.

Dross game first half. Without intensity we look half the team. We have to play at tempo and pace. Sharp counter attacks, neat short quick passing and movement, thats when we look best. First half there was little of that until the goal. Jonny may be better defensively that Doc but he is world class at killing a move! Someone needs to have a word and tell him that he can go outside. When he gets a cross in they are dangerous. Too often he played safe and sideways. Doc looks so much better offensively.

Thought the defence were fine, pleased for Ruddy who also commanded his box well and his kicking was ok. A word to the defence for remembering to put it on his right boot. Not easy when you have had left footed Rui all season. Jimenez looks far more confidnet in front of goal. Since the Chelsea game he looks likely to score. That goal lifted his confidence. I also love Jota. He brings a bit of spite and bite to the line and he seems to have learnt how far to push it. Great shithousing on the goal. Thats a great line, I had to use it.

So to the superstitions .

3 is a lucky number in chinese and our owners are chinese.

13 is seen as a superstitious number. 3 x 13 is 39 and its 39 years since we won a major cup. As you know its all bollocks but its nice to dream! Someones name is on the cup , just dont know who!

We have beaten Liverpool 5 times in 7 cup games. The only team we have beaten more? 6 ....... Stoke! Of course Mr Afobe will have a point to prove should they get past Shrewsbury!

I liked the look of Liverpool's Hoever, he cleaned up well at the back, but struggled in the corners.

Surprised to see some love for Dendoncker, he was ok but a bit of a passenger for parts of the game imo.

Me too - looked lost to me - it doesn’t help that he runs like an ostrich.
