I’d go full strength in the prem and switch in about five of the players for the europa - we should be good enough to qualify anyway.

Just seeing the goals back on MNF, the second one is definitely on Adama to a large extent. He hasn't got a clue what he's doing.

The third probably less so but he's still not impacting on the game in any way in an area that is his to look after.

How so? The second is absolutely on Donk for letting Tomori run so far without a challenge. Traore gets back into the wing back position and picks up alonso

And then on the third, we had three opportunities to clear (Neves the first one, and two Vallejo headers) none of which went more than ten yards. For the last clearance opportunity, Traore is on Mount when Vallejo heads it, which is where you’d want him - right hand side of the six yard box?

Gets sucked in way too easily on the first cross. We don't need him there, he ends up challenging his own man.

None of this is really his fault as we shouldn't be asking him to do it. We signed him as a wide forward and he was crap at it, we tried him up front and he was worse and in desperation at trying to make it work we've stuck him there. It might work against some teams. But it came badly unstuck on Saturday.

When Matt Doherty looks like Javier Zanetti in comparison, you aren't very good.

I'm not saying it's all his fault.

But watch him FFS. Just watch him, not the ball. He blatantly has not got a single fucking idea what he's supposed to do.

On that goal? I’d disagree - Alonso is ahead of him, so he gets back into position so he’s goalside and ready to pressure him. The other option is that he goes to Tomori, who then passes it out to an unmarked Alonso who gets the cross in, and then the commentary is “what the fucks he gone there for, Donk had Tomori...”

Genuinely, what do you think he should have done differently?

There's not a single millisecond in that clip for the second goal where he's even remotely where he should be :icon_lol:

He doesn't know how to play there.

Also think about what we've all said to you about acres of space that ordinarily never happens.

Traore is a couple of yards to far over on the second. Sort of leaves the space for Tomori to run into. If he’s more to the left he either prevents Tomori taking that option or tackles him if he tries it.

As for the third, the ball goes out wide. All of Traore, Vallejo and Donk stare at each Other and by the time they decide who is going to go to the Ball it’s an easy cross for a player like Alonso. Vallejo probably should have gone but he wanted to stay central but he was closest as they got themselves in a mess in the first place.

On that goal we had three chances to clear, he’s not the issue there. Don’t get me wrong, I know Matt Doherty has turned into a mixture of Cafu and Virgil Van Dijk since the end of last season, in the way players who aren’t In The team always do - but I’m not sure what he’d do differently on those goals. He’s a mile better in the air than Traore, so maybe he’d have got the header instead of Vallejo, but given Vallejo was right under it, that seems unlikely. Maybe he wouldn’t have gone j to the area at all, and stayed where the ball ended up - but given that defending crosses into the box is one of his strongest points, that seems unlikely too.

I’m quite happy to say Doherty can improve our link up play, is miles better defensively in the air, gives us a “twat it out to the right for a header” option and generally inspire the team to great heights like a modern day roy of the rovers, whilst Traore just goes past people and creates chances, that’s a legitimate if slightly over the top view - but there’s no need to try and bolster the Argument by saying he’s to blame for goals that he’s not to blame for, it just seems like people want to push an agenda that they’ve not had much option for this season as he’s been one of our better players (if not a seasoned defensive wing back)

On the second, as I say - if he’d gone to tomori, the ball would have gone to his man, Alonso. The fault here is Donk for letting Tomori run past him.

On the third, none of them are getting to the ball ahead of Alonso once Vallejo has headed it there. It’s just a poor clearing header, as was the previous attempt, and Neves clearance that didn’t leave the area.

He is at least partially to blame for both those goals, and for the complete free reign they had down that side for an entire hour. I'm sorry if that doesn't suit the Adama Fan Club.

Same as it was at least partially his fault for Everton's second, and Torino's first away from home. Suddenly this isn't looking so clever, is it, given that he still has 1 goal (over a year ago) and 1 assist for us in the Premier League.

He’s less to blame than Donk, coady and Vallejo for the second, but more than the rest of the team. He’s less to blame than coady, Neves and Vallejo for the third, but more than others. Sorry if that doesn’t suit the agenda.

It’s just a bit lazy - “it’s all Traores fault”, despite the fact it’s clearly not.

Rui the first, Donk the second, Coady the third and fourth, Vallejo the fifth for me.

Didn’t say it wasn’t. It’s manly donks fault, but you defend as a team.

As a defender I’ve analysed how he should be positioned. Defend as a unit, force it wide. When Alonso gets it go out to him. He’s causing no threat from there, he’d probably just pass it back.

The other one is mainly on the others, but he’s also wrong too after all that. But again, he’s not the main to blame.

Normally for a goal to happen it needs multiple mistakes to happen In a row. Like happens here

Point me to where I have even implied that (let alone said it) and I will happily backtrack quicker than Roger Johnson.

The only bit I disagree with is that if he goes to tomori, Alonso would get a cross in. 25 yards out, unmarked and on his favoured left foot, would definately get a cross in.

The rest however is spot on.

He doesn’t go to Tomori. He stays closer to Vallejo. Tomori would never make the run then as there would be no space or if he did he’d then pass it wide anyway as Traore would be in the way.

Alonso ain’t crossing from there. Probably no one on in the box and should be easy to defend.

Arguing over fault at the tomori goal is silly. Yes he should have been closed down, but a youth defender taking a super long shot at goal is exactly what you want, its a turnover in 99.99% in cases. Absolute freak/world class He wont score another like that in his career. The second was the whole defence, especially jesus/coady/saiss. The next two goals were pretty much all coady, tammy easily beats him in the air and then easily goes past him to make him look like a schoolboy. Saiss should have been marking tammy, hes got jonny to cover the flrank and is the fastest and most physical of the back three. If boly was playing hed be covering him like he covers kane why was coady covering the main striker this game. Fifth doesnt really matter whos to blame, we were all pushing forward and game was over at this point.

Feels good, this 'told you so' stuff, doesn't it? :icon_wink:
