The standard really is abysmal, VAR hasn't improved matters in the slightest either in my opinion, if anything it's made it worse as now they've got two opportunities to fuck a decision up. That and they've got all the attention on them, which it feels like they really enjoy. Best games are meant to the ones where you don't notice the ref, how many times can you say that nowadays?!

It's a global game, is there scope to have a global referee programme, with the top European leagues being the pinnacle, as it is for the players? The officiating isn't matching up to the standard of the sport. Seems stupid you could have the Messi of refs but if he's born in a small country he's stuck refereeing there.

I like Marriner, the City decision is shit but that is probably more protocol (and Moss and Lineaman guessed in the first place) rather than a bad decision.

He lets things go, and allows team to be physical, which then tends to be consistent for both teams. You may not get a foul you think you should but then it will be the same the other way. Whereas some like Coote blows every time someone is breathed on.

Mike Dean tends to have the high tolerance for fouls which I like as well, but then he needs to have his moment which Jsut throws all the good work away.

Read that myself last night and burst out laughing.
Leeds fans always have had a really high opinion of themselves, belief that they should be treated different (same as Newcastle but less likeable)
Rubs off on the players as well with the attention seeking subs sprinting across the field as if they were the first ever team to score a last minute winner.

I went on record following the Palace game to counter this argument as I see having an entire length of the ground favours the away support.
The acoustics especially when they score makes it sound like they’re the home team allied to the fact it’s directly opposite to the main TV cameras.

Three times this season (Arsenal, Palace & Leeds) the away support have completely outsung us from the Steve Bull lower, now obviously the way those games panned out had a big impact on that but I can't remember us ever being outsung like that in the Premier League before. I don't think it's anything to do with the away support being particularly amazing compared to previous years, it's just that usually when there's a rowdy away end they still struggle to make themselves heard over us (at least from my vantage point at the back of the South Bank) but this season our home support has been crap. It's mainly down to how dreadful we've been at home for me, the team have given us fuck all to be excited about, Watford aside we've had very few goals to celebrate and there have been 4 or 5 occasions where we've rocked up at Molineux and completely stank the place out.

Completely agree. Shots, chances, making the keeper make a save etc. get the crowd going. Leeds was probably the best we’ve been all season for that and we had a comfortable two goal lead as a result. But by and large it’s been pretty dull.
