Wolves 2-1 Leicester: Verdict Thread

Tactically best he gets it out of the way against West Ham then?
Ait-Nouri and Jimenez both with assists today, and they're our joint top assisters with 4 each.

Neves now only one yellow card away from an automatic two match ban :( He has "up to and including the team's 32nd fixture" to avoid it, which is another 8 games, so unlikely.

Not the best performance, but Neves in his post match interview talked about the team's mentality and that was where we won it today: we showed character to win a game where we were largely 2nd best all over the pitch.

The good: Sa, Podence, Coady, the return of Neto, and Hwang.

The bad: Raul, Moutinho, and the poorest performances of the season from both Kilman and Neves.

Raul is deeply worrying. He is really not looking good at all and we need him to find himself again if we are to maintain our European challenge.

Got home in record time (thanks our Bec) and thought I'd put the last 30 minutes of Super Sunday on to catch the game discussion. And it was all Leeds and Man Utd. Fuck off Sky.

Winning when playing shit is not such a bad thing. First time in a while where we looked decidedly ropey at the back. Apart from a welcome victory and another 3 points in the bag, Pedro Neto, Pedro Neto! Great to see him back in the old gold!

I thought Kilman’s struggles coincided a lot with Lookman seemingly having the better of Semedo for all of / most of the game. Difficult to tell if that was because Semedo had been told to go forward more often or just a generally bad game for Semedo though.

Was slightly surprised we didn’t see Jonny introduced for Semedo.

Thought we were terrible and half of it’s on Bruno.

Scored our only two meaningful chances and Leicester were wasteful.

Not really sure anyone played well outside of Sa. Coady and Saiss I guess didn’t do much wrong, Podence always looked like he could make something happen. Midfield had rings run round them most the game and Raul was terrible (pass the fucking ball!)

Battled well in dreadful conditions. The groundsman probably MOTM for providing a fantastic surface given the conditions. There was Biblical rain for about 10 minutes at about 4pm and I expected some standing water but there was none. Great job.

Leicester targeted closing Neves down as a priority and it largely worked but he hung in there and got better as the game went on. Other good performances were Sa and Podence. As others have said we need more from Raul - a lot more or Hwang, Neto and Pod should be starting. The dream lives on, roll on Thursday...

I thought their goal was one where it was nobodies fault really the movement and the pass are excellent from them. Other than that we dealt with them well. We were probably fortunate to win it on balance but an absolutely huge 3 points is all that matters and sets us up for a massive week now.

That's an interesting take.

The conditions were awful for playing football. Hard to get across how bad they were.

Thought Leicester got their tactics spot on which was to over load the wide areas and push Teilemans and Dewsbury-Hall into the half space. This meant Saiss and Kilman couldn't come out to help the full backs and so isolated Neves.

Moutinho was poor today and would've filled that hole on the left and Donk should've done the same on the right. Both were very poor of the ball in particular today.

We were sloppy with the ball but then Leicester were sloppy with their finishing.

It was a proper game between two good sides. Really enjoyed it.

They did spend a good 20-25 minutes after the end of the game singing Wolves praises and showing interviews with Bruno and Neves.

I agree. The 532 didn’t work at all and it was far too easy for Leicester to progress the ball upfield into our third with zero effort. They then had the FBs getting involved and had massive numerical advantages everywhere effectively playing like City.

Now they don’t have City players. You could argue they had 8 players who would have started if fit not there today. We should have been able to beat the press or make better use of the ball against them with all the space they were leaving. But we didn’t as we had some poor individual performances

Dendonker got the assist for the 2nd, squaring it to pod, not RAN

Not a great performance, but 3 points today was essential given the fact everyone around us won minus West Ham.

Feels bizarre actively taking an interest in United, spurs etc results because they are a direct rival at this stage of the season, I could get used to it.

Looked shaky at the back, but to be honest, 2nd half given the conditions you can make a case as for why.

Mahoosive week for our season. Feel to keep the outside chance of top 4 beating arsenal is vital.

Sa kick to send pod on his way was a thing of beauty

Semedo screwed up his control or else they wouldn’t have had possession in the first place.

As we've won, I'm willing to put all the sloppy play down to the conditions (which I don't think came across on TV, really).

Yup, won ugly today, and deserved that slice of luck perhaps.
Controlled the game well until we scored and for about 10 minutes after. We then started panicking starting with a bit of Raul sloppiness in the middle of the park when on the attack and Leicester gained confidence.
Tactically we gave them too much width, didn’t close down and they had overloads 3 or 4 times before they scored. You could see the goal coming and Tellemans thro ball was inch perfect.
We did look susceptible at the back for long periods and on too many occasions we wereour own worst enemy gifting possession in our own half, which is something we’re not always going to get away with against more clinical opposition.
Solid performances from Sa and Saiss but Pod was my man of the match.
Special mention the Hwang who stabilised us a bit up top and took the game to them, it gave their defence something to think about in the last 20 minutes.
Onward and upward
