Who cares? Jesus, let others have an opinion that differs from yours. This place will (continue to) be an echo chamber if you knock everyone that has a difference in opinion. Today was a good day, lets enjoy that and take the positives. We all know that was a massive performance from the team today, AND we can all see there is more to come. Enjoy the year, has some more disagreements on here too...(and don't shut people down for them)
To be honest, mate, I think the reason Johnny is picking up on those comments is
because it was a good day and we
should be taking the positives from it rather than being critical.
Anyway, Banjo more or less covered all my thoughts. Great day & really enjoyed catching up/meeting members of the forum before and after.
In terms of the team, Neves & Jota will grab the headlines over the season from our signings, but big John Ruddy today has added two extra points on to our tally with his excellent save when Britt was clean through. Ruddy & Douglas are absolute steals for £1m between them, and we have a lot to be thankful for having that pair on board.
Miranda was a tad ropey. There's no doubt he will enjoy the physical battle of the Championship, and it's a bonus that he's good on the floor. He'll get better with more games. I thought he grew in to the match as it went on, and he seemed to be enjoying the battle with Asombalonga, but was deservedly booked for 2-3 crude tackles. Coady did well today, but he's lost the flight of the ball twice in two matches now (once letting Vardy in v Leicester and again today), which we were lucky to get away with. Playing in that role, he's basically the last man, so if he misjudges something, it invariably means they're clean through on Ruddy. I'm pleased for him, and I'm comfortable with him being in that role - but he needs to cut the positional mistakes out. Boly was fantastic. He's fast becoming my favourite player. Absolute brick wall. Misjudged one ball but got away with it with a bicycle kick clearance. Generally though, I have no fear what so ever that he'll love the Championship. Douglas is a great signing. He just suits that role to a tee. The one time he was caught out of position, he legged it back 20 yards and put in a perfectly timed slide tackle to prevent a cross. He'll be a massive player for us this season. Doherty on the other hand, you'd imagine will make way to German Phil once he's fit. Doherty found himself in acres of space on a few occasions today, and just didn't seem to know what to do with it.
In midfield, there isn't much more that I can say about Neves that hasn't already been said. He seems to find a couple of yards of space wherever he is. Some of his passing, I have never seen a player with that ability in a Wolves shirt before. Spraying passes each and every way to the feet of other players. He put three challenges in towards the end which proves he's up for the battle and doesn't mind mucking in too. Quality home league debut. Jota, on the other had, wasn't really in the match for 60 odd minutes - then he wins the ball by the corner flag, and ghosts up to the half way line before being taken out. The best bit is, he probably has another 2-3 gears to go up from today - and I can't wait to see this happen. Bright is very good with the ball at his feet, and he's being asked to play a role that probably doesn't suit him - but I thought he did well today. He has a tendency to overplay it, and when he has time to think about it, he panics. He needs a goal and hopefully that will give him the confidence to kick on. Shame when he worked some space for himself that he did some weird sidefoot with his right foot rather then lashing it in with his left foot.
Leo did well. A good, solid debut. He took his goal really well (although it was served on a plate for him), and I'm pleased that it will give him a boost moving forward. Considering he's been at the club under a week, I think that's a really impressive debut for him. He didn't seem to strong in the air, but hopefully with the way we play, he won't need to be.
Overall, very pleasing performance and today was always going to be a marker of where we are and how well we can compete in this division. I'd say the signs are pretty positive.
