Wolves 1-4 Brighton: Verdict Thread

Nice to see you're as angry about Nunes' pathetic attempts at tracking back on that second goal yesterday as you were with Hoever last weekend.

Even if was just down to finishing chances it’s not fine margin’s especially when the opponent does it 3 times more than you.
Comments “like they weren’t much better than us they took their chances” so they were better than us then?
Feels very promoted club that’s out their depth talk to me.

Remember, we've got to be more humble. Jeff said so.

Well, I’ve slept on it and thought about it this morning with a much more balanced, rational view and honestly this sums it up perfectly.

Deadfall. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen anything as embarrassingly naive or inept as that ‘play’ for the start of the 2nd half. Both wolves and GON are gone. Just a matter of time.

Fuck Jeff, Guo and Fosun - you’ve fucked it all up totally.

We didn't used to be this naive on the pitch.
Not that ambitious on the pitch either, if you're playing in a riskier way then you're more likely to get carved open when it comes the other way.

Doesn't take a lot to stop most of the goals yesterday, clip of Mitoma's heels on the first, Nunes not letting a man waltz past him from the half way line to get a tap in on the second and RAN staying goal side on the third. Fabio and RAN both had very presentable chances, think it was Lemina from the freekick just before Hwang scores too? They're not huge margins individually, problem is when you fall on the wrong side of pretty much every single one of them it still adds up to a pretty big gap cumulatively.

Even away from the goals yesterday you could see similar things where Brighton were just a bit sharper and more in tune with one another. Wolves showed a lot of good intent yesterday I felt but it's still not quite there, and for the most part it's still individual decisions/mistakes letting that down.

We had the same kind of comments on the matchday thread yesterday.

The naivety of thinking it's an easy switch to just pour forward with every attack, and how we should just 'keep playing that way' was also mirrored on here.

When you play more bravely and take risks some naivety comes naturally

Yeah, afraid that with the benefit of of some time to reflect my conclusions are grimmer. At least this time last year we could look forward to reason prevailing and the manager being replaced by someone more competent. That doesn’t seem a likely scenario this time round. The exact, precise profile of the person we need has just been sacked, with some fans willing to buy into the party line so much that they give him a slagging off.

It's a bit like Alan Buckley saying years ago 'aside from the 3 goals Wolves did nothing in that half' innit.

We’ve done what we did in that 10 minute spell yesterday in every season since promotion even when we were at our best but usually it’s only been twice we’ve conceded.

Then at the other end, Fabio in a position where it's harder to miss than to score still doesnt score, and RAN from what 8 yards out on his favoured foot cant even hit the target, with piss poor defending and shot shy scoring attempts it don't matter how good we are in between we are going to struggle.
What's Traore done to piss off GON ?, every time i have seen him play he has been decent yet 2 games under GON he has'nt got on the pitch.
Fabio was slightly unlucky he hit the target, gave the keeper the eyes, he just caught the top of the keepers leg. 10 mm higher it was 1-1. It was the only time in the 2 matches I was confident we would score.

Also goes back to the acceptance of mediocrity and relegation threatened and people just thinking that’s how it use to be so what.
Within 3 years we’ve gone from fearing no one to basically writing off 12 fixtures a season because the opposition are just so much better.
We’re at a stage where the need for points take over style unfortunately.

And to rub salt into the wound we’re paying top six prices for the privilege of watching it.

More like 16 and counting, as you can now surely add Newcastle and apparently Brighton too.

Good job we always beat the shit teams!

At this point in time I dont think its realistic to expect people to recognise and acknowledge past performances. Fans, especially those who were there yesterday, are going to react to the here and now. But yes, we have had games where we have looked absolute wank every season. Heck, I can remember even under Nuno in a good season, bad games. We looked absolutely clueless against a Huddersfield side that got relegated. Maybe a different kind of clueless, but still clueless.

Any simpleton can task their team with being 'ambitious' and pouring forward without properly considering what happens at the other end

It was a lot of individual errors that left things so open at the back though from what I saw. Plenty of bodies around on the first but they parted like the Red Sea when Mitoma came inside. Again with the second, enough people around to pick up the Brighton players some chose not to their jobs. On the third Dawson is standing 10 yards ahead of his man ball watching and they just play it over his head into the channel to create an overload then RAN gives up tracking March.

I don't see inherent tactical flaws as fundamental to those goals happening, individua mistakes are far more prominent. Certainly not like AVB parking 30+ John Terry rigidly on the half way line and not expecting him to be beaten over the top every single time.

There is though an obvious naivety in going toe to toe with an opponent in something akin to their preferred style when they've been nurturing it for a few years and recruiting to suit. Especially when you're less than 2 weeks into your tenure and trying to move from a much more conservative approach. Not unlike Mick signing Maierhofer and Halford thinking he could replicate Stoke.

No point rushing to conclusions this early though, last Monday this approach did a good job of suffocating United for the most part and created plenty of chances in Wolves favour. Yesterday Brighton found far more holes than United had yet Wolves still found gaps going forward, even if they still couldn't take advantage of them. Two much more winnable games up next so got to be worth sticking with it until then at least? Surely no-one wants to see a repeat of Mick's last season when he got a nosebleed after 3 games and then shat himself going into must not lose mode at Everton, killed the momentum.

I don’t see who’s writing off any fixtures. We know there’s always teams better than us but there shouldn’t be any acceptance that they will just beat us but you can still recognise that sometimes they were just better.

Brighton are better than us at the moment there’s no denying that but even with that we we were well in the game at half time and should have been level. We capitulated in the 10 minutes after half time and that’s unacceptable and can’t happen again this season but as i said to Andy earlier we’ve had games like that every season in this league where we’ve conceded a goal and then bang we concede another.
