Wolves 1-4 Brighton: Verdict Thread

I have just seen the goals again
FFS the first is shocking.
Semedo - Show him down the line, having let him run inside and past you Trip him fucking up.
Dawson pushed out right to Mark someone (Rightly so). It left a massive gap.
Killman you have to push across and fill the fucking gap not stand there like a spare prick at a wedding.
If you can't push across (You should, then Ran pushed across to fill your space) scream at Lemina to fill the fucking gap.
Lemina you can see the fucking gap fill it it's your fucking job..

On the second Fuck me all our Midfielders were caught ahead of the ball, But not one fucking sprinted to get back, when the ball was pulled back Brighton Player on his fucking own, where the fuck was Lemina, Gomez? We need to be more aware, one of our Midfielders has to stay goal side.

3rd goal RAN was a fucking joke, You slowed down when March ran past you, then once he got 2 yards ahead you decided to sprint. You should have been ahead of him, Filtered across between the ball and March, but FFS Tug his shirt, shoulder him be a cunt make yourself his problem, not just jog 2 yards behind him.

Every goal was defendable, was stoppable, every fucking one just by doing your fucking job.

I would hope GON, has them in the theatre after their recovery session and goes through the defending for every goal, it was all school boy shit.

Yeah, you can’t have your full-backs adding to the attacking numbers against teams like Brighton when your two CBs are Kilman and Dawson.
That's not true. It's how you deal with those gaps; do you track the runs man for man, occupy the half spaces, set a trap for the ball carrier, flood one side, shift everybody across, drop deep, force the pass out wide.

Dawson and Kilman had no midfield cover today as Gomes and Lemina were both poor off the ball, running in too straight a line and mainly starting off in a bad position.

We're bottom of the league with no points. He needs to start doing more things right, and get us something on the board
Having played 2 games against a team at the top last season, and a team that qualifies for Europe.

It's not good at all, but Brighton at the moment are a very good team, despite having 3 Shit players, that everyone on this board would be screaming no at

Also worth calling out, I think, just how hard De Zerbi has them playing. How many times were we dispossessed by Mitoma or March (or Enciso, for that matter) charging back to help defensively? Even when they slowed their press, when we turned the ball over in their half they were like lightning from three sides to get it back.

I mean, I get it, that’s their whole system. But the effort required is high and not every manager can get their players putting it in for nearly the entire 90’.
It's not just the work rate they put in its how they squeeze the space and the options.

Then there's the angles they track back on and watching them off the ball, the work Welbeck and Mitoma do to get an angle for a pass knowing the ball will be won. That speed of thought and tactical knowledge is world class.

The only one who broke that today was Nunes with his close control and dribbling ability.

From the pictures I saw Shi was smiling Guo had a face like thunder

Remember when everyone said we’d be crap because of Europe and we finished 7th again?
PL is a lot stronger now and so don't think it's going to be one of those seasons where a couple of the Sky 7 are going to implode

In a similar way to how I and others ‘overreacted’ to Monday, I think there’s a fair amount of overreaction going on over this result too. And it’s fine, we all want to be right on our calls as to whether this new coach works out or not - but I hope for Wolves’ sake he does.
Let’s be honest, the majority (myself included) overreact to most results. It’s an emotive game!

Still haven’t seen the full highlights, but equally not suprised we lost today as thought it would be a very different game to Monday.

Read earlier that if you lose at home to teams outside the sky 6 at home you’ll be in a relegation dog fight. That’s drivel.

We may end up in a relegation dog fight, we may not. But we will lose to another team outside the sky 6 either way.

We must learn how to pass ourselves out of high pressure and also how to track back 100% fast

Might need technically better, faster thinking, pacier players to get good at that. But those players go to the 'big' teams, not us. And because they're in short supply them we make do with the players who are good, or fast, but not both, or at least not consistently. It's the natural order of things.

I think GO needs to be careful not to throw the baby out with the bath water. We are undoubtedly in a situation where we could easily be in a relegation battle, it currently looks far more likely than not. If he tries to change too many things we could rapidly enter a downward spiral, particularly as the fixtures are far from kind in his first three months. Like it or not with the squad he has we will struggle against a team like Brighton who are relentless at pressing and have some very good players. Depressing as it is our season will be determined by matches against lower half sides and anything from Brighton and the Sky Seven will be a bonus.

Lop left as after 6 months with the squad he realised he couldn’t compete at the level he wanted to and frankly if he couldn’t I’m pretty certain GO won’t. I think it’s going to be a long, dour season but unless GO gets two or three new players and is prepared to take tough decisions such as dropping his captain the only way to get through to next summer is not going to be pretty.

Yes.
It's like it's got nothing to do with our players individual ability, it's all down to the coaching and 'tactics'.
Take no notice of what is in front of you, before your eyes.
Ignore the positive attributes of the team or players you are opposing.
Look for scapegoats instead, the owners, the chief exec, the manager, the assistant coach, never the players, their ability or even more importantly their attitude.
As far as I'm concerned O'Neil is absolutely the last man we should be blaming. He's been in the job barely a week and has a totally inherited squad, with no option to change the personnel.
If the players don't have the individual ability which you infer in your first line then it's not scapegoating to look at the reasons why they were on the pitch. It's not O’Neil's direction I'm looking in fwiw, at least not personally, but there is a talent gap between us and Brighton and it's reasonable to ask why. Elements of the answer are because of things they've done well, but there's plenty to look at on our side beyond shoulder shrugging at their success

The last man??

I don't think all our current malaise is all on GON, by any means, but he's the manager and has ultimate responsibility for the team and (despite what The Dude thinks) what they do on the pitch.

Then at the other end, Fabio in a position where it's harder to miss than to score still doesnt score, and RAN from what 8 yards out on his favoured foot cant even hit the target, with piss poor defending and shot shy scoring attempts it don't matter how good we are in between we are going to struggle.
What's Traore done to piss off GON ?, every time i have seen him play he has been decent yet 2 games under GON he has'nt got on the pitch.

I had calmed down after last night but I've just read Gary O'Neil & Max Kilman's post match comments and I'm annoyed again.

The game yesterday was not about fine margins and we did not match them in any way. We were completely outclassed tactically and to suggest that a 3 goal margin flattered Brighton is either disingenuous or ignorant. Talking about the 2 teams xG being equal is absolute drivel when we spent 86 minutes (75+11 injury time) chasing a lead. Pointing at xG to excuse a poor points return without adding any context is a sign of a manager out of his depth at this level.

People have been wanking over O'Neil's interviews calling them 'refreshing' and 'honest' but what he came out with yesterday was similar to some of the garbled nonsense that Lage would inflict upon us. Excuses, delusion and a lack of understanding of what had just occurred on the pitch in front of him.
