Wolves 1 - 1 Hull - The Verdict Thread

have to agree with a lot of the comments regarding Dicko & Afobe that their position in mainly in and around the box - don't want to see Afobe picking up the ball on half way line.
i was not too impressed with Hause and hope Baath is not too far away from selection.
Edwards is a great squad player, but currently not in starting XI

Hause was excellent today for me. Against high quality opposition.

And without Edwards for me, we would have lost today. Such a vital, understated, necessary role.

Yep. As I said earlier, no issues playing Edwards against Hull, we needed a bit more pressing and work as they are one of the better teams in the division. But I don't want it to be our go to formation.

Opinions are strange aren't they, I had those two down as the worst performers in Wolves side today. (They didn't play badly just for clarity).

Up until the penalty I thought Hause was our best player. He had a few clumsy moments after that but I was quite impressed overall.

Very happy with Martinez today btw. Looked very assured for such a young keeper. That save vs Akpom in the first half was top class.

I think Hause is a little shaky and his distribution is below the standard it needs to be. He was unlucky to concede the penalty though and didn't allow many chances to a good strike force. He's young and can only get better!

The Edwards conundrum: his energy is amazing, he isn't too bad on the ball but we look so lopsided with him on the left. My early sight of Ojo suggests to me he isn't up to pushing Edwards out of the team tho.

At 70 mins I thought 'I dont care about the result, based on this we're the best team in the league'. The next 20 mins were one way traffic in their favour but I dont think Im changing my stance. If not for our prolifgacy we would've won that at a canter.

I've just watched the game after recording it earlier and this pretty sums up my views. I was sitting here wondering how the hell we weren't at least 2 goals up before they came on strong at the end. I was really impressed with us in general, played some good football and created chances against a decent defence. I think the most surprising thing was that Afobe didn't score right at the start, I actually think he looks really good coming from deep but agree that he shouldn't be there as much as he is.

All in all very encouraging.

I think Hause was one of our better players too. He shouldn't have conceded a pen as it wasn't one and apart from the Akpom chance where he stumbled to let the striker past him he was solid. He's not great on the ball sometimes, mainly taking too long to play it but he's more than good enough and will only get better.

Agree again, he looked comfortable and apart from a few dodgy kicks early on i was pleased with that performance. The save from Akpom was top class, he made himself huge and there was no way Akpom was clipping it over him.

Think some people are a bit harsh on Hause, thought he played well but being a young centre back he will have his moments. As slink says he will only get better from here.

This lopsided comment. We aren't at the moment going the traditional route hence why Henry and Edwards were at time well tucked in

Thought the draw was about right. Last 20 minutes we tired badly and I did find myself wondering if our fitness/conditioning department had not got us as fit as we should be. A few comments on various players...

Martinez - good for me; liked the way he quickly wanted to turn defence into attack. Surprised at decision to drop Ikeme, but happy with Martinez
Iorfa - how good a defender will he become? I thought their RB was pretty good for the Champ, but Iorfa was better. When you ring up the price will be north of £10m, Mr Wenger
Hause - poor pen to give away (and a definite pen: don't be silly, Kenny) but that's the price you pay for the fact that he's 20 and still learning the game. Good otherwise
KMac - I have him in the positive column; looks improved by having CC alongside him. Sort his contract out
Coady - if anyone would like to offer me 6/1 I'll back him now for POTS
Henry - some nice balls but does look like he's running through treacle
Edwards - Mick liked him, Kenny likes him. 5 hours after the bloody game I still can't decide if he was good or bad...
Afobe - the comment above re Rooney is spot on. The are other people in the team to do the donkey work, Benik
Dicko - had to score that one after 60 seconds...
Ojo - disappointing. Only 18 but needs to do more than that

Kenny - yet another game where he appears to have been out thought. Subs far too late & no point at all bringing ALF on for 90 seconds. Hull used 14 players, we used 12 and in the last 20 minutes it clearly showed.

As it stands we are good enough for the play-offs. Let's hope Wallace can push us into the top 2

Pleased that this was a 12 o'clock kick of as just managed to see the whole game before having to run round to the bowls club for a match.

My thoughts already covered by others in the main - needed to put one of those early chances away. 9 times out of 10 Afobe gets enough on the first one to make Davis's recovery despairingly irrelevant, though would credit to the keeper for getting out quickly enough to make it difficult. Dicko had far more time to set himself & should have at least got that on target. One of those going in changes the whole tenor of the game.

Really impressed with Coady - tackles, passes , is energetic & prepared to have a go from distance - something we didn't do enough of before. Could well turn out to be one of the buys of the season.

Afobe should have rounded him. Worst case we get a pen and a sending off if he doesn't score

Just that the keeper's speed out got him there at almost the same time as Afobe, would have been a split second decision whether to hit it or try to go round him

He got there first easily. He shouldn't have had to think about it, he should have made the decision running there. He normally rounds the keeper. His only thought should have been I'm gonna get a toe on this and round the keeper. He either wipes me out, or I've got a tap in.

If he doesn't get there first then not too worry.

The atmosphere was very flat. I was in the North Bank and the emptiness around the ground was all too visible. That didn't help the game. Blame the Sunday 12.00 KO and the television.

What was the attendance?

Looked like very few from Hull - Steve Bull lower looked almost empty

Just over 20k Parkin.

I can't believe we didn't win that game. Overall we were excellent I thought.
I thought Hause showed he had improved since last year. Looks much better in his preferred position. My instinct was no penalty, but at the same time, I can see why it was given. Very soft, easy decision for marriner, the swine.

Defence looked sound, aside from Jelavic turning Iorfa, and as a unit we looked a little scared of Akpoms pace. Martinez did make some very good saves, and looked to distribute fairly quickly.

Gobsmacked Afobe didn't score early on. Plus Henry's chance from 3 yards, and Edwards later, and even Dicko's. At least one of those should have been buried. I'll chalk it down to a lack of match sharpness. However, we really have to be burying those.

Interesting that Golbourne started taking the corners.

I also think McDonald was a bit in & out of the game, until that superb sliding tackle. After that, he was much better.

Delighted to see Coady shooting from distance. Henry aside, I don't really think we've anyone who is prepared to have a go from outside the box, and there are times we should be. Glad to see someone grasping that mettle.

We bossed that game for 80 minutes. Those there may put me right on this, but from the TV it only seemed to be the last 10 mins when they had a proper spell. That said, a good game of football. I'd back Afobe & Dicko to get 45 between them this season to be honest, providing we get no injuries. And I think McDonald isn't now the sole provider, which will create a challenge for a lot of other teams.
