Wolves 0 - Charlton 0 The most frustrating verdict thread

What are you dribbling on about Booz? How can you say Jacobs isn't good enough at #10 he hasn't been given a chance this season in that position?

The fact we've changed style, gone a little more direct and moved the ball wide as quickly as possible also tells me KJ doesn't want a #10 otherwise we'd have got one on loan and kept the style of play the same as last season.

Lingard......I think he will play through the middle

Jacobs has been poor everytime he has come on this season

Edwards has scored a few the last few games

Jacobs has had 0 starts in his best position, I think that is what grates with people (and swapping RBs today while leaving him unused makes it worse).

If Jacobs was seen as the answer to Wolves problems yesterday would have seen his second half inclusion playing through the central position. Obviously KJ is looking for something different so why have him on the bench.
It was noticeable watching the Watford goals against Blackpool they had forward players between the lines playing through balls past the centre backs enabling easy chance creation.

No wonder they gave free tickets away. Worst 0-0 I can remember (though my memory is shite)

I know Kenny has started Jacobs out of position when he has bothered to acknowledge him, but he's obviously a bit-part player at best in KJ's eyes now. To say he doesn't want a #10 just because he hasn't picked Jacobs is daft.
Lets just say Kenny Jackett doesn't see the requirement of playing someone behind a striker who can commit defenders and go past opponents. Someone who adds an unpredictable element to Wolves game plan which at the moment is easily defended against because its so predictable.

Where do I start. Predictable. Easy to play against. Toothless.

Absolutely abject stuff yesterday. It is games like this that make me doubt whether Jackett can take us much further. Baffling decisions at times.

Charlton seemed more likely to score than we did and made us look very poor.

Ikeme - couple of decent saves. 7
Iorfa - Attacked when he could but very naïve 6
Batth - Tough afternoon and was guilty of getting too tight at times 6
Stears - as above, decent distribution, but a couple of shaky moments too. Took a yellow for the team 6
Hause - is what he is, a CB playing LB - no attacking threat 5
Price - Poor. If this was Karl Henry playing he'd be getting pelters for this performance. No attacking impetus at all and played half a dozen silly high balls. Play to your strengths Jack - 5
KMac - Showed glimpses but plays 15 yards too deep. When he plays we play -6
Henry - Decent first half, never a left winger, shouldn't have been subbed at all. 7
Edwards - AWOL first half, not a left winger ever so why play him there FFS - 5
RVLP - typical RVLP fare. Final ball noticeably better but has absolutely zero game management ability. 6
Afobe - Really poor. 5

Dicko - Looked to me like he was sulking - 4
Golbourne - Missed him. Did as well as a man on his own could do. 6
Doherty - not on long enough

No real atmosphere.

Jackett. FFS stop shoehorning player in. Pick a formation and pick a team. Hause is not a left back. Edwards is not a left winger, nor Henry. I've never seen such an unbalanced side in all my years. As for predictability, so so true. RVLP - play a $$$$ing ball in first time. By the time he gets round to it the players in the box have made their runs. Dicko, stop sulking. Afobe, make a run for a player to hit you with, don't stand there waiting for it! Why take our best crosser of a ball off when we have more people in the box for him to target!
Basic basic stuff.

Absolute downright appalling stuff. Wouldn't have scored if we were still playing now.

Accurate assessment NWW.

If Edwards is un-substitutable, then it had to be price to make way as I said live. But Instead we changed the system and changed the personnel to not fit that system. Awful management.

Maybe he does though and just hasn't been able to identify the right player that we could buy? I'll admit I don't know and am just putting it forward as a possibility, I just don't see how people can make statements as facts based on one player (who Jackett obviously doesn't think is good enough) not being picked. He also must think Edwards is doing that job to a certain extent as he keeps playing him there.

I disagree regarding Hause/Golbourne. He simply had to make the best of what he had in that situation. Hause was poor but I think it would've been irresponsible to throw Golbourne in for 90 minutes, considering that he hadn't even played in a training ground friendly beforehand. Golbourne will regain his starting place from next week onwards I imagine.

When Kenny Jackett arrived he stated we are a coaching club so is he coaching Jacobs to become what many of us believe him to be, potentially a very good footballer in the exact role that seems to be missing yet required in this current Wolves team.

Price should have come off for sure. Edwards is a central player, never a left winger!

Absolutely Andy. But having no left sided player ahead of him means in effect our sole left footed player and attacking player with width down that side is a teenage centre half. nuts

At times the only thing in front of Golbourne was a massive gap. We have an overbalance towards the right side but yesterday I thought we played to it as well. We can't stretch the opposition if all of our play is coming down the right side. Tal Ben Haim and André Bikey were eating up any pressure through the centre. Earlier in the game we had some qualified success with a couple of defence-splitting through balls and I'm surprised we didn't make more use of that route in the second half.

We desperately need a wide left player, better CAM or both since Jacobs is clearly out of the first team picture. I suggested Lior Refaelov (who ironically, Charlton are interested in) in one of the transfer threads. These players are out there but it's up to the international scouting team to prove that they're worth their salt on this issue, and it's up to Morgan to back the manager he was waxing lyrical about a couple of months ago.

Competition for McDonald would be a good thing as well. What about Tom Cairney?

Quality player.

Cairney is a good footballer but unlikely that we could get him. Also saw Blackburn fans say he hasn't played that well this season

He didn't impress me as much at Ewood because the manager shoved him out on the wing for some reason. He looks like a CM to me. He played well at Molineux though.

He may not have Boo but I find that hard to believe. My eyes tell me his style of play this season says that he doesn't want to go centrally and wants to move out wide quickly and it is that rather than Jacobs not being good enough that tells me a ball playing #10 is not in his plans.

Again I think Jackett doesn't want one and I agree with NWW with his assessment on KJ. I think we'd have been in for Pritchard at the beginning of the season if we wanted to play through the middle as he's clearly the type of player that thrives in that role.

The biggest issue from yesterday is that when we have Dicko and Afobe on the pitch together we lose balance and shape entirely. We have a huge chasm of space on the left hand side as Edwards appears to still want to (being told to?) play centrally. This puts all of our creativity on the shoulders, and flank, of RvLP - who then has 2 or 3 defnders on him as soon as he gets the ball. Seems easy to defend against. In fact our only effort on target came from RvLP running into the middle from the right and finding Golbourne in acres of space on the left. His ball over met by the head of Afobe. There wasn't enough of that type of invention on the pitch. It's almost as if Kenny is ignoring the left flank completely when he makes the change.
We got away with it against Blackpool because when Afobe came on he was sharper and fitter than Blackpool and his runs were causing havoc and creating space for others.

Bottom line is that KJ needs to find a balanced system that includes both Afobe and Dicko if we are to break down the opposition who come to defend. He won't play 4-4-2, so that means Afobe playing behind Dicko instead of Edwards and keeping a wide man on the left. But what do I know huh?!

I've apologised to Johnny via PM (he did apologise to me first) for being an arse last night. No excuses, I was a bit of a dick.
