Wolves 0-3 Man City: Verdict Thread

Fun fact, last season we scored the same amount of goals as we did under Dave Jones in the prem.

This season we are roughly on track for 16-17ish goals (back of a fag pack maths, so happy for anyone better with maths to correct me!)

Don’t think this is the game to twist the knife in a bruno. The damage and limitations of him are already well known, so I’d rather move on and comment on is we played. Although, think playing neves at cb and keeping the team as it was proved to be a good move, so as quick as we are to vilify him, I think he deserves credit where it’s due.

Again, felt there was some good stuff In there. We were the better team 2nd half until they got there 3rd, again without ever threatening ederson. It’s alright saying we are just missing a striker, but I doubt it’s as straight forward as that.

With the squad we’ve got, we should be looking up the table, not back. Personally think we will still be fine this season, however with someone else at the helm it could promise so much.

O, nunes is going to be a player. You can see it.
I will politely disagree. There is no such thing as a free hit. And he did pretty much everything wrong he could have done today. Bar that, I was delighted.

Just asking 😬 thought you might know the answer seeing as how you'd done some 'research'.
We scored more goals (although not 'that many') before we sold Jota (and Doherty) and befor Raul and Neto had long, serious injuries.
That was then, this is now.
Your comparing apples with oranges in other words.

And the squad we have now is better than the one I'm comparing to.

Comparing apples to oranges hahahaha

Not without pre injury Raul and Neto and a firing Diogo Jota it isn't.
Goals win you games.

Neves is miles better than he was, huge upgrades in defence with Nunes.

Creating chances gets you goals and we have way more quality in that department than we've ever had but the manager can't find a way to make them a cohesive unit.

Neto is being massively overhyped here, he had plenty of games like he's had for us so far this season with the occasional brilliant game. He's not peak Messi.

He's our best attacking option, he's being played in a role that doesn't maximise it. That's bonkers

I'm not sure he is. He's definitely being played out of position though and being asked to do things that aren't natural to him.

Not sure where you’re getting it’s a free hit from? You’re politely disagreeing a point I haven’t made. I said there is no point twisting the knife in because it’s the same talk every week and the same frailties and limitation. Never I free hit, but we actually played alright today I thought, considering the circumstances.

And yes, before you say, I do think he needs replacing

Another fun fact. Wolves have played 14 PL games at home in 2022. The top FPL scorer in those 14 games combined is Kevin De Bruyne

We were only the better team because City were in bottom gear verging on idling. It was as relevant as a preseason friendly against Walsall.

Just saw the goals on the news (working weekends is paying dividends this season so far) minutes silence and applause seemed well observed and the anthem seemed stirring, what was it like there ?

Was Nuno also playing him out of position when he played him on the right too?

Hindsight is a wonderful thing, I actually thought selling Jota at the time was the right move, because having seen Neto a few times, I thought, This kid is gonna be a world class talent and better than Jota.
Obviously his injury scuppered that.
But selling your second and third highest scorers in a low scoring team was a serious mistake.
Raul has been the biggest issue. We've created chances and he hasn't been there.
The manager identified a possible solution by signing Sasa.
Serious question: who would you now play as a 'striker' in place of Raul, Sasa or Silva?

Primarily played on the left and occasionally switched over which is quite natural now for wide players.

Raul isn’t the biggest issue. We’ve got a manager who has no basic leadership credentials and that’s the biggest issue. It’s staring you in the face. Maybe he’s a good member of a coaching team - I don’t know. I do know he’s no manager though as it’s in everything he says and does.

On the left way more, one of the reasons Jota left, but if he was on the right Nuno expected his wide forwards to go inside more for the wing backs to go outside them. Lage wants him to go outside or at least that's what he does, meaning he either tries to cross with his right foot and invariably smashes it against the full backs shins or has to check back and lose it.

So when we do ok we get no credit and it’s because the we played we’re letting us, and when we do shit it’s entirely Lage and the teams fault. Got ya.

Can only play what’s in front of you, and yes they maybe took there foot of the gas. So what? You can give credit as well as just faults. It is ok..

The common misconception that relying on 1 or 2 players to score your goals is a good thing. We should be finding ways to play that means goals are spread out between the team, it's much more sustainable and prevents problems like losing your only goal threat.

Give me Silva over Sasa, mind I'd have started the season with Silva first choice. He's well suited to play as the front man in a 4231 but obviously the Portuguese Mr Bean doesn't think so.

Minutes silence was ruined by City fans on the concourse who I assume didn't know it was happening - even though they should have and then the usual "shut the fuck up shouts" which I've never really understood...they aren't going to hear you.
