Winter Improvement Thread (aka Winter Squad Weakening Thread and TWF Suicide Watch)

Please, not the left hand side of doom! We can't send that out for the rest of the season.

---------------------------Martinez-----------------------

Iorfa--------------Batth--------Williamson--------New LB (please)

-------------Saville------Price--------McDonald------------

------------VLP----------Mason-------Zyro (Byrne until he is fit)

God I know, I don't like it either, but that's the kind of team I expect Jackett to put out. Clearly sees Doherty as a decent left-back, and I imagine his competition will be Hause when he's back fit. (Though knowing our luck Williamson will probably pull a muscle 20 mins into the first game Hause comes back for, meaning he has to move inside and Doherty gets his place back...)

If the Mason deal is anything like as expensive as suggested, I would imagine much of it is made up of add ons including promotion (at which point the add ons are peanuts).

According to some on the Mix Mason is dithering over a move here. Not sure whether there is a link to an article on that.

I saw that on Twitter too, though it could have been inspired by the posts on the Mix.

FWIW - he's not the worst player in the world and might link up well with Dicko next season. I don't think he's a 3 mill player but someone I was talking to on the train home didn't think it was particularly over priced for him, just to add a neutral perspective!

Pleased about the Williamson deal, and the length of contract seems right.

Still think we need a new centre mid too but if Mason and Williamson sign a left back becomes the priority. I hope KJ's plan isn't to put Hause there when he is fit however, as he isn't a left back, but could be a very good centre back.

Trying to sign the dude from Ajax would indicate we are looking at the LB position.

Isn't so vomit inducing next year? I don't expect NB to sign by the way, and that midfield terrifies me, but that ain't bad

That would be a good starting point. Providing we started playing football again as well.

Boilesen deal's not happening so it'll be A N Other at left back, but yeah, I like that lineup - even the midfield, as long as Price is there. A front three of Graham - Dicko - Zyro in particular is really quite tasty - maybe not Sako - Afobe - Dicko tasty, but almost there if all three of them come back from injury looking as good as they did beforehand.

Make of that what you will.

This would be with a new manager I presume? Because Ken isn't going to go with Price & McDonald again, he's clearly not a fan of that combination.

That's just what I think is the strongest and most balanced based on what we have, or probably will have NB aside

Reported £300k which is ok for him as his contracts up in the summer and its clear he's not in Kens plans.

It really shouldn't need to though surely?
