Winter Improvement Thread (aka Winter Squad Weakening Thread and TWF Suicide Watch)

Average Championship striker for an average Championship manager and an average Championship squad.

He's a decent finisher if you give him the chances, not exactly going to create anything himself though or contribute in any meaningful way to our general play. If we sort out the mess behind him he could be a good signing, if not then he's going to look just as ineffective as Alfie has been recently.

Joe Mason with Dave Edwards playing behind him. Fuck sake that will terrify a few defences...

This would be funny if it wasn't Wolves. I'm going to join some random Championship side's forum to see if I can find some equal hilarity I can actually enjoy...

If the market value for Mason is 3 million Afobe is worth 15 million. Don't be suckers Wolves.

Fucking hell! That is fucking ridiculous. Walk away and play Bright up front.

That's a week old. I suggest Cardiff have realised in the interim that they need to sell someone and no-one is going to have a look at that price.

Mason wouldn't be a horrible signing at a million, 3 is way out. He isn't a bad footballer but so far away from what we actually need its laughable.

I hope, if he comes, that he does well. However, that price tag is way way too much.

£3M is the going rate for a quality Championship striker these days. It is probably too much for Mason who hasn't quite proven himself in this division yet but we're desperate for a striker and there's fuck all out there at the moment. What pisses me off is that we let Afobe go for £8-9M. Unlike us, the likes of Cardiff and Peterborough actually know how to get good money for their players.

IF the £3m pricetag for Mason is correct and IF the £9m pricetag for Afobe is correct of course.

Apart from the Guess and Stir, where does the £3m amount come from?

I'd say that the money we have received from the sales of Stearman, Afobe, Jarvis, Griffiths, Fletcher have all been excellent returns. I don't think that is a stick you can beat the club with.

Isn't he supposed to be a link play support striker/number ten rather than a lethal goal scorer? If that's the case and he's basically a slightly better goal scoring version of wes hoolihan, I'd be quite happy.

The thing is we've had a couple of weeks of our fans blithering on about how we should just pay whatever it takes to get players in, stop being tight Wolves, you have the money, then we go in for a player and the fanbase suddenly decides it's too expensive.

I think he's alright, it is too much money but we were always going to have to overpay given the circumstances. Don't sell your best player in January is the lesson, albeit it's not a lesson the club should even have to learn, it's common sense.
