Winter Improvement Thread (aka Winter Squad Weakening Thread and TWF Suicide Watch)

From my understanding, the head coach is told which players he has to work and the head coach has little say in the transfer.

I think the process works but unless you get the right people and personalities in those roles it can go horribly wrong. You could have a DoF who goes rogue and starts playing real life Football Manager for instance - I'm sure some could connect the dots with Byrne and possibly Wallace.

I think a good DoF would do the donkey work and then with considerations for budget and availability present the options to the manager to make the final decision. Removing the manager from the whole process just doesn't sit well with me, much like the committee at Liverpool.

All that said, Kenny also knew the approach we were going to take when he signed on, if he's struggling to work that way its on him.

That makes sense.

I guess it's a bit rock and hard place: we could spend the money and end up with a total flop. There's no guarantee that Conor Washington will set the world alight at QPR despite his fee. Although by the same token if Afobe was "continually expressing his desire to leave" - as Jackett said - then we should have had a contingency plan in place long before now.

I wouldn't be surprised if we ended up with someone like Tom Bradshaw, but maybe we just need to face the reality that we're not a very attractive proposition right now if a player wants a fast ticket to the Premier League.

I don't think it's that difficult to find players that would be good in the Championship, even at low prices. I think our issue is the lack of agreement between KJ and KT. Both looking for different type of players.

Problem is the fans get more dispirited, season tickets aren't renewed, attendances drop, less money for new signings. Downward spiral...

Given that this season is a lame duck I can't see the point in major overhaul of the squad now - spend the rest of the season working out whether any of the recent purchases have got any future at the club and have a go in the summer when we have a new manager.

Not really that big a problem

Say we drop 3,000 season tickets. On an early bird that is what roughly £350 each - just under a million quid.

Painful, but not the kick to the budget that losing £8m in parachute payments will be next season.

Ticket price offers will be required to fill the ground, as with the Cardiff game.

Head of something else and director of football development I think

So would you say that Marshall helps bring in first team players, and Thelwell is more signing players for the u18's/u21's? Ala Will Randall. Apologies if this isn't the case.

So today KJ has said we're struggling to sign a striker and that Bright will probably go out on loan [emoji106]🏻

Ricardo Fuller has been released by Oldham Athletic. Just putting it out there...
