Anyone want to review their prediction in light of yesterday’s non-event?

Yup . . . (I had previously nominated 15-17).

Today, I had a look again at all the Premier league teams (nothing much else to do in lockdown Melbourne) and I reckon we're about 50/50 to go down.

I have Norwich and Watford to go down, followed by either Newcastle and Wolves.

The way the club is being run (amateur hour at its' best), if it's not this season then it will be next.

I was very glass half full and have been excited by the approach from Lage. But the lack of squad depth really worries me as goes the lack of midfield cover. So it could be bottom 5. I thought we were 3 players off a good season and we failed to get them. We may lose stars in January.

I’ll take 17th right about now. Joyous, and let’s not forget significantly more expensive times.

I have been very pro the owners. I’m not now. They have fleeced the fans of money most of us are struggling to cobble together in a pandemic and then have made the squad weaker and relegation a significant possibility. This is hard to forgive.

I'll stick to my original 11th to 14th prediction. There's plenty of sides that haven't got the quality that we have.

Worried about next season though.

If we can get the signings right in the next couple of weeks. 12th, but with potential for higher. Hopefully Neto comes back as sharp as ever, and if Jonny can come back strong as well when he does.

A lot depends on the coach, obviously. He’s seen enough to go to a back three for now, so that is encouraging, no reason we can’t play a little bit higher in a 343, and it’s obvious he can actually coach so it comes down to how he sets the team up and how quickly we can adjust to what he is demanding. Some aspects of pre-season have worried me though, so I’m wary but hopeful.

first three games are tough but after that we have a fairly kind run til December. So if he does have a poor start he’ll be under a bit of pressure. Sounds like he is quite well liked by the players though.
I think even without the signings, I’ll stick with about 12th. Having seen the team perform now, I actually have a fair bit of confidence in the coaching team but it’s now going to be frustrating for me as I think we could have achieved a lot more with the right signings. I voted 11-14th in the poll and wouldn’t change that either

I don't think we'll go down, somewhere between 10th and 15th but we should have strengthened and been pushing for better

Thought we'd be here which is why I went 15-17, although even then I didn't think we'd lose all 3. That said the performances indicate we should be fine, although a couple of poor results in the next 2 games will kill confidence. 2 injuries in midfield and we are fucked though. Relying on a 35 year old with little cover is stupidity

Only way we go down is if we get injuries in midfield imo. Let's face it we still have some excellent players....our first 11 + subs should be good enough for mid table.

We’re not going to go down. I’d still say that won’t happen even with injuries. I trust the coach could work around it till January.

The disappointment is we could be so much better than the midtable position we will likely finish in.

I'm not overly concerned about this year, I think we'll muddle through. It's next year I think this window is going to really bite us, I just can't see us being able to replace Neves and Moutinho, sign Hwang and Trincao permanently (if they're any good) and sign a CB.

I know it's been said that the FFP excuse is bullshit, and I believe it is, but will that even be an excuse they can use next summer?

I think it'll be January when Neves, Traore and Raul push for moves out of the club.

We are in deep shit this season.

I'd agree that Traore is definitely going to push for a move in January. Neves less definitely depending on where we are in the league and who comes in for him. I suspect Raul will want to get a full season until his belt before thinking about a move.

I fear that failing to get in the top half of the league by Christmas will increase the difficulty of attracting the quality of player we all want.

Yep, why wouldn't they. The club aren't matching their ability and ambition so i wouldn't blame them at all.

Feeling very deflated. I went for the 7 to 10 option, feel more like 17th now. a couple of key injuries and a bad run up to Xmas and Lage could be gone. Finding a decent replacement would be really difficult without a promise of serious investment in the January window. Big Sam on standby? Worse case scenario, I know.

Watching Newcastle vs Norwich and with us already sat on 20 points...yeah, we aren't going to be in any trouble. Which when I looked at our prospects at the start of the season, I did not expect to be saying in November.

Full credit to the players, manager and staff there. Not the owners or executive team (we don't have a board as such).

My problem from here perhaps is they'll know we're as good as safe barring some weird disaster, which is the limit of their expectations...so we don't try to improve on what we have, because we ain't going down. That would be a mistake.

I’m going 7th now. Depends how we get through the brutal December.

Top half would still be a great achievement and agree with TT more likely to be closer to 15th than 6th.
