There's a serious lack of self-awareness in this one, Jesus Christ :icon_lol:

Well this is a joyous read. Perhaps just ignore each other? It’s not worth the increased blood pressure

It's fun though. Can't I play with him for a bit longer?

Im also with Del on this one, clearly it is a bit of a step back if we miss europe this season. Surely will have an impact on signings and being able to keep our stars. We have been incredible this season again but we have more inside i feel.

Agreed - not being in Europe next season would be a real blow both to our chances of keeping our best players, and our chances of signing our main targets.

Well, this thread nose dived since this morning....anyway, I've changed my mind......cos I can......6th

So we only sign good players if we already have European football?

Neves
Jimenez
Traore
Moutinho
Patricio...….shall I go on?

All signed when we didn't have European football, you know why? Because we sign good players that fit the team as players and more improtantly as people and who buy in to the long term plan (which is constant progression its not determined by and specific goals such as Europe) and then we mould them into even better players!

The thing is those players were all signed at a point in time when only potentially Patricio could have got a move to a Top 6 PL team. Yes they came for the project and in the case of a few came at a lower level than they could have, but to move on we are going to be looking at players who have options in Europe. The pull of the EL isn't that of the CL, but could be the difference between someone joining us or going elsewhere, if say hypothetically they had the choice of us or Spurs.

The other point is a rhetorical question as nobody on here knows the answer. Does a 29 year old Raul Jimenez, who is at the height of his career and being talked up for a move, more likely to angle for it if we don't make Europe than if we do?

We need europa for consistent coefficient points if nothing else. I also think it makes some difference in the everything else also. Stupid to think otherwise

With the Sheffield result tonight, it's back in our own hands again.

If we had held on against Burnley we'd be 3 points ahead of 7th. A win against Palace and then the only way Spurs could overtake us (assuming they also beat Leicester) on the final day would be if we lost, they won and ended up with a better GD than us (both currently on 11).

Finishing 2-5 points short after the blades/Burnley results would be a right kick in the cunt

At the risk of creating some ire I have an observation or three.

1. We play the same way home and away with pretty much the same players so there is no advantage for us at home. That's why bus parkers or those who work out our system get at least a point from us.
2. We have zero cover for Raul. That needs sorting. A decent hold up centre forward coming to the end of his career but worth 20 sub appearances, cup cover and 8 goals. Giroud on less wages. I am sure that person exists and they need buying.
3. Doherty replacement. We must upgrade him, bless and probably Saiss too.
Podence has a brain. He is looking to create things. Ok he is Hazard light but we have looked better with him on the pitch rather than off.
I think it's important that we do progress and keep challenging and that means Europe. I completely agree that it attracts better players. We have some serious connections and used them to build this squad. There was some hard sell . So far it's delivered. But these are now name players and can get poached if we regress. Twas ever thus.

I'm just a typical internet generation lil biatch tbf :icon_lol:

At least Banjo won't have an unexpected confrontation next time he's in Wolverhampton :icon_lol:
