What are you currently listening to....

I can perhaps see why some people wouldn't like STP but AIC are quality. Each to their own though. Like Nando says, their Unplugged album is brilliant. Next you'll be telling me you don't like Pearl Jam!

I don't like either. Or Pearl Jam (apart from maybe Alive).

AIC & STP were merely imitators imo.
Loved pearl jams first two albums, and have an awesome bootleg of the vs tour, but they've never hit the same heights for me.

I'm listening John Lennon's "God". The lyrics seem a little hateful but damn it's a good song.

Tremendous track, is that. Are you listening to Plastic Ono Band? Brilliant album.

Yes I am. Surprisingly without any other band in between.

The thing that gets me with the God song is when he says "I don't believe in Beatles, I just believe in me"

Considering this was just after the break up in 1970 it is a tad controversial.

Also I listened to "stairway to heaven" for the 1st time and loved it.

'Mother' is a great track on that album. Good to see you branching out from the Carpenters James!

If you've stopped being dismissive of entire genres then listen to some Beastie Boys or NWA.

Trying to find his own identity innit.

Listen very carefully to the lyrics in 'How Do You Sleep'. A scathing song about Paul McCartney.

I've just listened to it, honestly I like it but damn it's a very hateful song.

It's one of the bitchiest songs I've ever heard!!

But I think it's a tremendous track. I think I'll listen to that album on my way into work tomorrow. My favourite track on the album is 'Isolation'.

Stairway is awesome. My favourite song ever.

Now James, you need to learn the guitar and then Stairway note for note. You'll be awesome then. I remember getting up early for school every day so I could learn and practice that song as much as possible I was so mad on it.

There's lots of Zeppelin which isn't heavy and people would like. Have a listen to "Celebration Day" off Led Zep III. Catchy but still quintessentially Zeppelin.

I remember in sixth form we had a communal mix tape where everybody got to choose one song for it. I wanted Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now but that got vetoed (wankers said it was too depressing - which it isn't) so I chose Stairway just to spite them because it's over 10 mins long.

Isolation isn't a song I'm overall fond of to be honest.

I look at John Lennon and Paul McCartney and do think they were very much a pair of bickering idiots. The reason why I say this is because after the songs "Ticket to ride" and "Help" were wrote Paul insisted they were a joint effort when John had wrote them. I look at the songs John did as a Solo and you can see he was pissed off big time with what happened in The Beatles.

I'll give it ago just for you :icon_lol: shame I don't play or own a guitar with strings (guitar hero's fault)

Not true - because Lennon didn't write a single word or note of (amongst others) Yesterday or Hey Jude. They often wrote songs on their own, played them to each other and if the other liked it, they didn't add anything to it.

But all their compositions are Lennon/McCartney because that's what they agreed when they set out.

When the Beatles broke up, there was a lot of bad feeling between them for various reasons but if you're a good songwriter and can make a good song out of such a situation, there's nothing wrong with that at all.

I imagine Lennon didn't co-write on virtually all of the McCartney stuff. I generally prefer Paul's output than John's personally as I find it more melodic and interesting musically. Generally speaking of course.

Stuff like Blackbird and the wonderfully melodic Till There Was You would never have come out of Lennon's brain.
