West Ham 0 v 1 Wolves: The Verdict Thread

Raul needs a goal, terribly. He'll probably relax and play better when that is out of the way.

He scored against Everton...I’m happy we won today for his sake, his confidence would’ve been shattered if we hadn’t.

Bennett MOTM for me, superb performance. Coady has also been superb this season so far and surely an England call up isn't too far away for him. I'm really concerned about Jota and Costa. Jota in particular has been poor every game so far this season. Time to take him out of the firing line. Our midfield two work so hard and can control the tempo of a game so comfortably. And Jonny is superb.

Fuck me. It's taken me an age to calm down after that one.

I was thinking about what I'd write and what I'd say on the phone and it was that I was disappointed that we didn't win after dominating the game against an established PL team, away from home. Of course we've pinched it because the goal's so late (and because it's such appalling play from Sanchez) but still. We deserved that. We are a better team than West Ham.

Patricio, Bennett, Coady and Moutinho all outstanding. Thank you very much.

Charlie Nicholas - "I have to admit - I quite like to watch them. They are good on the eye. Overall, a very well balanced team."

We get that level of comment out of him that hates us, then we really are the real deal.

Missed the winner as had put Thomas the Tank engine on for the demanding one! New ritual.

It is so odd to listen to us patiently playing controlled forward away from home at established sides. What a time to be a fan.

Personally, I would have been happy with a draw so am delighted with the win. Jota`s form worries me, do we have a replacement to, at least give him a rest/something to think about? Patricio was a brilliant signing and I don`t think it will be the last time this season he will save our bacon.

It was a strange game as the tempo from both teams slowed down a few times. We were much the better side, and created much the better chances.

Does Traore need to improve his moment to receive the ball? Yes. Does he make poor decisions? Yes. But he also creates chances (one for himself with poor shot, one for Doc) and space for others in general. And it was a great finish too. I can handle that thank you very much.

Moutinho is unbelievable. Absolute god. How does he play for us? Patricio too (bar the odd shit goal kick). Bennett was immense too and Ruben was his usual self. All in all a very good day!

Glad to see Bennett getting praised, 3 or 4 times he single handedly (footedly?) stopped WHam in their tracks. Proper defender.

Rui was excellent, Moutinho was very tidy. Boly was ok but still had his moments (especially first half when he gave it away under no pressure then conceded a FK on the edge of our area). Rest of the team was below par, really, and I'm getting a little concerned at our lack of incision/penetration/whatever you want to call it. We should be creating more/better chances than we are but something's not working up front at the moment. Too many times we choose the wrong option, or players are hesitant to take their man on. Hopefully Cav can get back soon as it will give us another option, doesn't seem like Nuno trusts MGW completely yet.

Would've been a real waste if we hadn't won that so glad we pulled it out the bag. Word for Leo with the assist and in general his movement when he came on as he was constantly trying to find space and offer himself for a pass - not sure if his goal in midweek has gee'd him up but he looked very lively.

Traore I can see both sides - more than once he held onto the ball instead of passing it when he had options. On the other hand, neither did he exclusively do just that, he had multiple crosses and was by far our biggest attacking threat, good finish for the goal and hopefully he can build on this.

Only other thing is we still look shaky at set pieces...that's slightly more of a concern as it is not a new thing and I would've expected Nuno to figure something out by now. It doesn't look like we're going to be banging them in for fun (at least, not yet) so we need to be as watertight as possible.

The look on his face was very much "I am really really going to hate myself after saying this"

Patricio is the best keeper outside the champions league sides. By a street. Sorry Jordan Pickford (who is also magnificent), but that is the way it is.

Out all day & deliberately didn't look at the result till it was over - an away win (over anyone) before an Int break is a good deal. Looking forward to seeing highlights on MoTD tonight - we have a team & West Ham don't

Charlie was raving about the one where he came off his line and saved with his face but the looping header is the best save today. They are fucking difficult to save and even harder to get a decent hand behind and push away from the goal.

It was. But I also have to say that at about 1 o clock he said he was looking forward to watching us play. I'm intrigued to see how we bed into this division. Merson loves us, but he is batshit bonkers. Le Tiss backed us to win. I think we have just arrived.

Oh yeah he did. Didn't remember that goal. Shame on me.

Bit of a strange game for the first half, Wolves looked comfortable as West Ham just stuck everyone behind the ball and didn't even bother to engage to any real extent but Wolves never really looked to force the issue either so not a lot happened. Second half West Ham looked a bit more purposeful but with little cohesion there wasn't a great deal to test Wolves and the status quo largely remained. Think Wolves substitutions did more to help West Ham than anything they did themselves, whichever of Bonatini or Jimenez has to go wide to facilitate that change is effectively neutered and Traore may as well have been the only man on the pitch given how he reacted whenever he received the ball, though even if that was the case he'd still have lost it in today's form.

Few clear chances for either side with the keepers at either end shutting out the best chance each way before Jimenez looked to have spurned the last chance to decide the game. Neves with his most influential moment of the game deep into injury time forcing the ball from Sanchez, Bonatini holding play up and releasing it into Traore's path for him to grab the winner. Interesting to see Vinagre used in a more attacking position off the bench, would seem a more useful option than fudging it with Bonatini in Cavaleiro's absence but his Adama-lite cameo didn't really hit the spot for me, best thing about his performance was allowing Bonatini to get back in his proper position.

Jack Wilshire is over, WHU only really came into it after he went off
