Welcome to Wolves Matheus Cunha

So this new deal basically means he’ll earn more money over the remainder of the season before we sell him in the summer?

Wonder what the release clause is.

I'm sure I saw a figure of 65m mentioned somewhere?

Thoughts on that?

Seems… low?
Presumably this is what's been the main cause of delay in negotiations. Cunha's team wanted to make sure the figure is realistic so that he's not trapped here forever, and we wanted to make sure it's enough to ensure we don't get screwed on PSR, and maybe make some money on the deal. It's lower than I'd like, but it doesn't surprise me.

Probably fair. It has to be low enough for Cunha to agree to it ( thinking somebody will pay it) and for the club to guarantee a nice profit including a few extra bunged on top for his additional wages.

The thing which seems to have changed from the reporting earlier in the month is it's just a standard financial release clause applicable from June versus one that was just in the event of relegation

I wonder what the relegation clause was? £30m? We'd have looked pretty silly having to sell him for a sum like that.

Percy confirms that the release clause is only €75, so essentially we're going to undersell him by about £10m. I suppose at least it'll be done early

Doesn't it depend how many clubs come after him? Surely it's only the release clause is a minimum if only one club bids on him?
Or doesn't it work that way?

No, we have to accept £62.6m, 4 clubs bid that then he chooses the one he wants. Essentially anything above goes on his wages not to Wolves

The club Cunha will want to leave to go and join only has to offer the release clause and we’ll be legally obliged to accept it.

From my point of view getting his head right to keep us up is worth a hell of a lot more than potentially losing £10m in his sale fee.
It doesn’t sit well with me but that’s the power he effectively had over the club.

We'll have amortised a lot of his original fee by the summer so it will be a big plus for fair play reporting too. He was always going to leave, hopefully this means he doesn't have to go to Man Utd as the only high bidder.

It’s fine and to be expected. But don’t give it the Biggun with kissing badges and saying you love the club when you’ve basically got the club over a barrel to get a 6 month pay rise and then a simple out over the summer.
