UEFA Nations League & Euro 2020 Qualification

Interesting isn't it that for a nation that went round renaming places into English because they couldn't cope with the funny foreign word in the land they'd just invaded, one certain Englishman can't cope with someone literally spelling out phonetically the football fan pronunciation of his own country.

Funny how racists, xenophobes and other badly informed ignorants are often the biggest snowflakes of them all.

To add my comments to the fray now, I’m here in Porto - went to the game tonight, what an incredible atmosphere, loved every second of it, loved seeing Ruben out there. But yeah, the majority of English fans out here are a total embarrassment, just seems as if it’s a massive stag for 1000’s of people.

I was listening to talkSport this morning and they were saying the more easy to get to games attracts the idiots who want to cause trouble and to add to that the fans who are there to follow England after a few beers turn into sheep and start joining the idiots who are acting up or something to that degree along with Portugal being very easy to get to, they also mentioned Dublin and Amsterdam as other hotbeds for English trouble.

Sounds like a trip to the darts, without the fighting with police.

Frankly I think we should allow the Portuguese police or those in whichever country to seriously crack some heads. These are just numpties on a jolly in a big group, pull them aside one by one and all you would hear is baaaaaaaaaaaaa.

Is this nation's league thing really a thing? Like are people excited about it. I haven't actually watched any, thought it was basically a series of friendlies or like a Toulon thing, but just read an article moaning about the fact that if it wasn't on sky it'd have the whole country giving it the old 'it's coming home' like last summer.

We beat Spain away last year and then it was a massive winner takes all game vs Croatia at Wembley. You honestly missed all that?

If so then you probably just don't care very much about the England national team tbh.

World Cup and euros, aye, I'll watch them and get all excitable as they're proper. But have they just stopped friendlies and made up a tournament then?

Yeah, but it's been a good tournament. Everyone has something to play for and the football has generally been excellent across all the levels.

What we talking in terms of how bothered you are? League Cup? FA Cup? Premier league Asia trophy? I rarely miss a bandwagon tbf, I'm just finding it a bit annoying, like when Sky tried to get everyone interested in cycling and pretended it was a proper sport

It's England, even when we were turbowank under Schteve I watched us and wanted us to win.

Obviously it's nowhere near a World Cup or a Euros (prestige, only being a single game knockout in the finals, spread out over a long period) but it's still a big game tonight.

I can't compare Wolves and England now. I'd say they were roughly equivalent to me up to and including the 2006 World Cup. Not even in the same postcode now and never will be.

I haven't been fussed about England for about ten years now, though I did watch the semi final. I consider this on a par with a pre season tournament, but with the caveat that there is a potential back door qualification to the Euros.

I've been really enjoying the Nations League - although I think the winner should get something other than some prize money and an oversized trophy. Like a guaranteed spot in the next major tournament, or something.

Anyway, you wouldn't have caught me watching an international friendly between Portugal v Switzerland a few years back - but I watched last night's game and really enjoyed it. Hopefully tonight will be a decent game and England will get through to the final.

Problem is that the qualifiers overlap with the finals anyway. And most teams in Group A will surely qualify for a 24 team Euros regardless.

Maybe a guaranteed top seed spot at the next tournament (the Netherlands probably won't have that in 2020, Switzerland might not either).

Kane, Alli and Henderson on the bench. Delph, Barkley and Rashford start.

I'd play Wilson instead of Rashford and Dier instead of Rice personally.

Chilwell has a wonderful head of hair. Very Deutsch-esque.

Not sure how Dumfries escaped a yellow card there?

That drum is really starting to do my head in now.
