I saw a programme on BBC Three the other week about the new phenomenon of Irish rap.
Funniest thing that's ever been on that channel.
Oh god....I can imagine!!!! Yikes..... we have some of the most laughable pathetic drivel your ears will ever hear. Poor kids from bad estates yadda-yadda.....BUT...... the fundamental problem here is delivery. The Dublin accent is not particularly pleasant, specially when used by the little toerags on the estates. Every second word is a nasal 'wha' or a 'bleeeedin'. So it just doesn't work when you hear it here, you see people turn to each other and cringe. I was at a fundraiser a few months back and 3 lads were on first, all hoodies and tracksuits, and the lyrics were literally -
" So den oi shot me Ma, an den oi shot me Da, den oi blew away me mot, cos she was on de blob, wha". I had to sit down in a dark bit so they wouldn't see me pissing myself laughing whilst they got all 8 Mile onstage.
Apart from the Rubber Bandits who are actually geniuses because a lot of people don't 'get' that they are a joke band, a parody of the absolute dirt thats out there. But yeah Irish rap is pretty laughable right now....
