Trump

Quite right Booz, I think we will also see some more surprise results across Europe in the next year or two. It's a strong showing that the ordinary voters want serious change.

There needs to some unity in Europe right now, or Putins tanks will be revving the engines and the US has just changed sides

Most annoying thing about this result - I am not surprised one bit.

That's what I thought.

Lets face it, this was a vote of who do you hate the least.

It was a vote to show your fear and suppressed racism really.

Pollsters are being screwed over by recent elections. There is a mass amount of people who simply won't say who they voting for or lie and this making their predictions badly wrong each time

There $#@!ing should be. He wants to build a wall to keep the "spicks" out. He wants no Muslim immigration. He has a past record against women that should be criminal. He is a racist, xenophobic, misogynist $#@!er. Plus he has control of both houses. The world is a lot less safe with a maniac in the White House.

The man with the biggest ego on the planet, the man who said he could stand on 5th avenue and shoot people and not lose votes, has just had his extreme narcissistic personality disorder reinforced by the US electorate. I've no idea where Penk sees evidence of him being "reigned in" by the GOP. In fact I expect the opposite, I expect purges.

Watching his victory speech - Thanked everyone from the person who combs his cat hair to the secret services...wrapped up the speech, glanced to his right and spotted his Vice President, nice sudden realisation he had not said a word about him at all and quickly got a thank you in for him.

And to be fair, Obama talked big and delivered little, maybe trump will be the same...

He has control of both houses. He can push through just about anything he likes.

Bah Paddy beat me to it. I'm hoping that his unpopularity within his own party will mean that they won't push through anything that he likes.

That you can firmly lay at the feet of the GOP who promised from day 1 to block every single initiative, who from day 1 kept linked arms with the birther movement and other assorted freaks to make Obama's presidency as difficult a job as possible.

Do you think his congress will allow him to finish the wall that Obama started?

Do you think congress will allow him to ban Muslims from entering the U.S.

He doesn't just decide what he wants to happen then that becomes law.

I noticed in his speech he said a big thank you to the secret service and the excellent work they've done with him.

They're gonna be working hard for every penny they earn over he next few years.

His party has control of congress and the senate. Obama had neither. I would say there is a much better chance of Trump pushing through just about what he wants. He is the nominated leader of the party, and he has delivered an unlikely victory. Frankly, anyone standing in his way is political roadkill.

Yeah, this is a pertinent point. Trump has no love of NATO and doesn't believe that an attack on one of its members necessarily requires a response from the others, so we can expect quite an isolationist foreign policy.

I don't share Penk's optimism that we're past the time of wars. It was only the 1990s when we saw terrible bloodshed in the Balkans, in countries that are now nice tourist destinations within the EU (and where they still find mass graves from time to time). I think complacency that such things will never happen again is misplaced.

If Putin decides to grab a little bit of territory here and there, is Donald really going to care? And if he doesn't care the first time, what's to stop Putin just carrying on?

I'm not suggesting we're on the brink of a Russian invasion of Western Europe, but the days of our US security blanket may be coming to an end. After all, they've only really provided that "service" for around a century - nothing to say it has to always be that way.
