Yeah, he really covered himself in glory on 2 mins.

If we're playing three CHs we need our backs to have some kind of a clue going forward
We needed our left sided centre back not to get sucked out, and then if he does to get back into position, and that ball would never have got to the back post.

Much better corner there. Just aim for the back post.

Doherty wouldn't have even been within 5 yards of Johnson for his tap in.

So we'd still be 1-0 down then?

It was you advocating Semedo's defensive skills as some kind of price we pay for how laughable he is in the opposition half. Yet he's flailing and we concede before some of the ground have taken their seats

Anyway there's definitely a way back into this for us, assuming we can find a bit of cutting edge.

So Semedo couldn't have defended any better?

Seems like the guy gets a pass at both ends of the pitch then

Semedo is a vastly better one on one defender.

You can't stop attackers getting half a yard with forward runs. The rest of the team needs to cut the ball out better. You know, stop the cross.

Just like RAN did then.

Any way, a decent half and response after the goal. More than matched them, but we have to do better in the final third if we want to actually score.

Who's saying he's most culpable for the goal?

I just wouldn't be lauding him as anything special defensively when he was right at the heart of us conceding

I find it odd that Semedo is being regarded as the most culpable for their goal, what Semedo had to do to prevent that goal was more difficult than Toti, Dawson and Kilman.
Im not advocating that..but, Semedo has done some really shitty things defensively many times before(as you all remember I hope) Doc is MUCH better going forward..so I prefer Doc right now..we need to score

Obviously he could, but when you go down that route there's a whole 90 seconds of them having the ball where we could have done something better.

Then you can include Ait Nouri and Hwang who let Kulusevski and Porro get the better of them on the overlap, and then Toti for not intercepting initially and then being out of position when they got wide before it gets to Nelson letting Johnson get in front of him.

*Edit it was actually João who didn't help Ait Nouri out properly.*

If we had wing backs who could deliver a ball we'd win this, but one can't get it off the ground and the other either hits it at his target or sails it over their heads. No doubt Semedo could do better for the goal, but the real villain is Toti, goes to intercept a ball, pulls out which leaves him out of position so Dawson moves over and there's a space in the middle.

We’ve been huff and puff really, very little in the way of attacking quality in the final third of the pitch.

After just seeing the goal back, Toti gets back into position ok but Dawson really didn't do anything to cut that ball out. Just stood doing nothing and didn't react positionally to the ball to Porro that opened up space for him to cross. Poor from both of them.
