Things that make you SAD thread.

Just been shopping at Sainsbury. They put loads of barriers up a few months back, but now, you have to scan your receipt to exit through a gate.
Which is a bit of a faff, but I'm more sad that this is a thing that is now necessary. 😕

Superb stuff at the one on Wolves ring road as a) they don't tell you, so most people leave the receipt behind, then have to go back and fetch it and b) it works maybe 2 times out of 10, so matey comes over after a bit and lets you through, no questions asked.

The bigger indictment is stuff like baby formula being security tagged. Which means that either cunts are robbing it to sell on at a discount, or mothers are so poor that they can't feed their kids and are having to steal. Tory Britain.

So what do you do if you pop in but they don't have what you went in for?

Strip search before opening the barriers?

The barriers (at least at Wolves) are where you exit the self-service bit. Go through the normal tills and they aren't there and there's an exit bit for people who don't buy anything, often there's a guard there and I assume sensors to detect if you've got anything shovelled in your coat.

Don't have them at my store but the shoplifting is unreal at the moment, and to answer your second paragraph, it's both.

I had a scumbag in the other day with a hole in the lining of his coat and stole 16 bottles of laundry gel and we have 'regulars' who go after meats and coffee. These will come in and make no secret of what they're upto. Grab what they can carry and run. If we're lucky they surrender the items but most will just walk with what they have until the next time.

I've posted before I had a lad in school uniform hiding behind a support column eating a sandwich he'd not paid for before running out and recently watched an old fella pocket a 40p pack of custard creams.

It's grim out there.

Not been to Sainsbury's for ages (too expensive) and I thought most self service tills ask if you want a receipt. I usually select no if I've only bought a few things as I'm sure lots of folk do.

If only they could be transported to the colonies.

Life is just cruel.

A good friend had a battle with breast cancer. A long battle that she thought she had won. Along the way she was told she would never be able to have kids due to damage caused during her treatment..since the treatment stopped she has had 2. Not that long ago she was told she was officially cancer free.

Well it has come back and with some force. Stage 4 that has spread to her brain, spine, liver and a few other places.Tumours in her spine have also caused a fracture.
Treatment has begun that will be hard and painful as she does everything she can to see her miracle children grow up. Full brain radiotherapy be followed by chemo. No doubt she will fight this as hard as she can again.

Just immensely cruel and heartbreaking.

Just a matter of few weeks ago my sister like most of us she was plodding along through daily life. She had a couple of ‘vacant’ spells she thought might be worth checking out so went off to see the doc.

Fast forward to an MRI scan and diagnosis of a malignant brain tumour. Checked into Addenbrookes hospital this morning in readiness for neurosurgery tomorrow. Chemotherapy to follow. All a complete whirlwind.

She’s so unbelievably brave and calm but lord knows what she’s hiding inside. I don’t know how people in that sort of situation cope but they just seem to do so. I think everyone is just focussed on hope as the alternative is too difficult to comprehend at the moment.

So grateful for the NHS and the brilliant people within it, they have been incredible.

One day at a time and fingers crossed, I’m not sure there’s anything else you can do. It just feels so, so cruel.

my god mate what shattering news. All best wishes to her, yourself and the family. Look after each other.

Hope all goes well for her.

Awful news. Hope it all goes ok for her. All the very best.

Thank you for the kind messages.

The operation itself has been as successful as possible, in the sense “they got most of it” and she’s doing as well as can be expected. She’s spoken with her husband briefly just a matter of hours after the operation so that has to be a very good sign at this stage at least.

Long period of convalescence and the chemotherapy to come will be another part of the journey, but for the moment happy to take the positives.

Our dog recently developed a growth on her belly. Only small, wouldn't even have noticed it if my wife didn't point it out. Vets did a biopsy, Cancer. Seems like it's treatable but it's still knocked me for 6. Had her when my son was born 4 years ago so it's not like she's getting on in age.

Talking to the wife last night about music and asked her if she wanted Hoziers new album as she likes him and its just gone number 1. She said no - it's ok I can get it on Spotify.

Got me thinking that this attitude is another nail in the coffin of music as we know it. I used to love getting a new album, looking at the artwork, reading the liner notes and enjoying adding it to my collection. When I was in a band and we put out EPs and albums we always took time to consider the artwork and photos to go in the inlay and I know most artists still do so it is sad to see that aspect of album art being ignored by the Spotify generation.

I agree. We picked up the double gatefold special edition vinyl of 72 seasons and it is so much more fulfilling to pore over a great album cover than to just press play on Spotify

Iron Maidens Live After Death is not only the greatest live album ever, but that in sleeve.
