There goes Julen!

Here's another background question....
When we've watched the videos of players arriving at Compton and you get to see the facilities and all the transfers and all the motivational stuff all over the place, then you get glimpses of Inside Molineux, how do our training facilities compare with the likes of top Spanish, Portuguese clubs?
Are they better, much better or just a bit naff?
Would a foreign player coming here be impressed? (Before he met Bruno of course)

Better than it was 40 years ago when they trained on the Stan Cullis car park

Yeah, outside the CL clubs Compton is pretty much as good as it gets.

Newcastle's current facilities are essentially unchanged since about 1996 (obviously the new owners will change this ASAP).

Wolf Hunting is referring to Four Oaks in Sutton Coldfield. Full of Villa players pads.

Historically as well as Sutton a lot have lived in apartments in Brum. One or the other is where most lived during our last PL period
I know of some players that didn't live in those areas.

Most players have lived in Codsall, Tettenhall, South Staffs as a whole and Bradmore the last few years.

Tend to be nice houses in leafy areas.

Four Oaks is archetypal leafy big houses. Expensive as fuck. Be a bit of a sod for a prospective player who got his wires crossed and checked out Four Ashes.

Actually Pad, it's one of the things that prompted the question... A good few years ago, I heard that a cople of Wolves players lived In Sutton Coldfield then later when I was reviewing old railway lines I came across Sutton and was amazed that players with shed loads of money would live all the way (so far from the ground and further from Compton) out there!
Inference being there can't have been any nice places within striking distance of the ground.

No inference really.

I worked in Cheshire for a while but still lived in East Didsbury as well, that was my house and I liked it. Doesn't mean there wasn't somewhere nice nearer the office.

People live wherever they want to.

Footballers flock together, that's why some used to live out that way, because it's where others do. There are Liverpool and Everton players living in South Cheshire because it's a footballer zone

I think that was wanting to be near mates in the game who were at Villa etc and ignorance of how lovely west of the city is. For not much more commute than Sutton Coldfield you could live in Alderley Edge or Wilmslow or Knutsford and surround yourself with half the United squad.

Roman road Sutton is the place to live if you’ve a bit of cash

Can Julen speak fluent English?
Not watch any Youtube clips...

There are videos of him on Youtube doing interviews in English including a longish one with Balague. Its absolutely fine and better than Lage’s, Lambert's or Bully's

Derek Parkin and Geoff Palmer still live in Codsall. Mark Venus used to in the 90s too.
Derek used to live in Bishops Wood when I still lived closer to Wolverhampton. I guess he's getting on a bit now so perhaps Codsall is easier.
Veno leaving Codsall must have bankrupted FA Brookes. They closed soon afterwards. Top man.

Our first team and academy share a facility whereas other clubs (e.g. Liverpool, MU, Everton) have completely different sites. Obviously only having the one facility means costs should be reduced.
Having been to many, many academy and/or first team set ups this [DW's point] is very true, although many are investing money into these facilities now where they haven't previously. Burnley, for example, went from one of the poorest to best (outside of the big guys) set ups in the last ten years. Man City's is on a different level but that's somewhat easier when state money funds you and your ground was gifted by the local authority. Also investment in academies is outside of FFP - now that any of that expenditure would get muddled up in the accounts though...

Lots of weird scarecrows/Guys knocking around Bishops Wood at Halloween a few years ago. Not been through that way for a while so unsure if it was a regular thing.

I seem to recall them being sat on the front walls/hedges/gates?
