There goes Julen!

Unless Shi expected the funds from Gao and that particular drawbridge has been drawn up.

It doesn’t seem unreasonable to assume Lop came to Wolves with the expectation he’d be competing for Europa League football rather than he wanted to live in the West Midlands and dine on battered chips. He’s managed Real Madrid and Spain so it’s unlikely that he’ll see a few years in mid table at a provincial PL club as desirable. Challenging for top seven is always going to be tough for a club like Wolves and trying to do so without the requisite backing is nigh on impossible so I’m beginning to think it’s more likely he will leave than stay if funds aren’t forthcoming to bring in the players he thinks he needs.

This situation also highlights the stupidity of sacking a manager that achieved two top seven finishes and then had a dip for one season. Madness.

I suspect the most likely reason behind all this is that Jeff realised how much shit he'd got us into, Julen had already declined the job a week or so previous, and that his sudden improvement in his dad's health coincided with Jeff telling him that we're owned by a multi-billion pound company, money is no problem and we want to be in the fight for Europe. And now he's had to come clean.

I guess one possibility that doesn't involve anybody lying or being misleading is he now realises how far off that we are now after working with the squad. I appreciate things can change quickly, but if we accept there is a Big 7 now and that we are a fair way behind Villa and Brighton we start as 10th as absolute best case. Some, me included want 6 new starting players, but don't think that's realistic, perhaps he agrees? As said he's not here to manage Crystal Palace

There was a report somewhere that he wanted 5 players this summer (maybe Liam, not sure)

Feasible he has now said 6 or 7 and been told only if you sell Kilman, Neto or Nunes.

We will only find out if he quits and he tells Mr B who will let us know via Twitter.

If his press conference this week is after his latest talks with Jeff we will get a better idea. If he is still saying the same thing it might be time to increase the worry by another 15%

I can't see this as Lop has a good points record with this squad as it is and would finish top 10 without changes.

If we really wanted to restrict spending we could loan players with a view to buy. Gives everybody more time and helps the FFP nonsense line trotted out.

It looks like there is something deeper at play here.

I’m sure that is part of his thinking. His view on the squad is unlikely to be massively different to most of ours. There are very few players that would be wanted by the teams you mention and to compete at a level he’ll be happy at needs more than a couple of £20m signings.

I’m not convinced we’d be top ten without changes. He’s got the best out of what he’s had available but to be sustainable over a season he needs a number of additions.

Concerned that this rings true - that something else is not quite right, or rather this is one facet of a deeper malaise. The run rate is good with the current squad, despite the evident structural issues that need addressing and given the lengthy timelines of his appointment I'd have thought that commitment to long term investment for a project that would come to fruition over some seasons rather than immediately in would be fine / in keeping. It's a real black cloud that we've managed to conjure up in a week of clear skies :(

He’s going at 1.5 points a game and with the current squad
He wouldn't go at that rate with this squad next season imo. Consistent 1-0 home wins aren't sustainable, all it takes is your keeper to go walkabout and it's a draw, we create little and score less. He doesn't know how to get anything away from home with this side.
Like Nuno, I don't feel he'd ever have us in trouble, but this squad even with him is bottom half - I bet he knows it, he wants to be competing for Europe, we'd need half a new first 11 to do that

Given the source, that's worrying, although doesn't mean Spurs have an interest.

Hopefully it's either simply an opinion piece where he hasn't spoken to Lopetegui about it or just another weapon to throw at Jeff...fuck this up and you will lose a manager you worked so hard to get.

Finger now hovering over the 4 season ticket renewal button with a little more uncertainty than seemed plausible 24 hours ago (when it was 0%)....

Really glad I renewed our 3 last week
