The wolves Way

You have no clue what Wolves would be able to afford to pay next time they may find themselves in the Premier League, who knows what sort of money may be involved by then. Last time round Wolves were light on wages but heavy on transfer fees, ?

Heavy on transfer fees? We spent less than 10 million on the whole squad during the entire last season , clubs like stoke are spending that on one or two players.

Should we of gambled and thrown money at it (when we were in the Premier League) like, say, Portsmouth or Leeds? It worked out brilliantly for them. Or, to a lesser extent, Wigan?

I've already said , Portsmouth and Leeds are classic examples of how not to go about it which is why I'd sooner we look to local talent/, the academy to fund future success instead of jeopardising our future.

Not back then they weren't. We were in the top 5 or 6 for transfer fees in that 3 year period.

Don't talk bollocks man, Mick spent north of £60m on fees in two and a half years in the Prem.

And there we go. The attack on Morgan and the way the club is run I've been waiting for......

You've been waiting for? Are you genuinely alright as your strange posts are getting more bizarre, where is the attack on Morgan? I've said I support our sensible spending policy instead of throwing money at pampered pre madonnas but lets not pretend it will mean we can compete with clubs spending 10 million plus on single players as we cant.

If you believe we spent 60 million on players in 2 and a half years you need help my friend. I'm afraid your figures are well out

Not really, even when we were in the premiership we were one of the lowest payers and rightly so but could you ever imagine wolves offering a 65 grand a week contract like Palace just have ? It wont ever happen , that's not how we go about things

And if we refuse to do so at some point we will never become anything more than a yo-yo club at the very best. I'm going to stick my neck out and say it's Moxey holding us back. The man is wholly reliant on doing what the owner suggests, but does nothing bold whatsoever he's just so risk-adverse.

And the WUM is complete.

Why am I a WUM for suggesting players are pre Madonna? May I suggest you stop attacking posters and spend more time perhaps accepting others have a different view ,have a shave or something.

Im not sure Edge but if Moxey is doing what the owner suggests then that would indicate Morgan is equally happy with how we do business otherwise he would fire him

Pre-Madonna FFS.

Pretty selective on that one season there.

As has already been pointed out by several other posters, Wolves were well up in the top half of the table on net transfer spend over the 3 year spell in the Premier League, think pretty much everyone of Mick's signings in that spell went into Wolves' top 10 most expensive signings, even dross like Halford got himself up in there for Christ's sake!

The final season saw something of a dip, yes, but I think that was more down to Mick's choice rather than a tightening of purse strings from above. Following O'Hara's arrival on loan the previous Christmas Wolves had a pretty healthy points return, I think that lead Mick into a false sense of security, with that signing made permanent and the addition of Johnson I think he expected a whole season with that sort of points rate but alas the whole thing went tits up.

The recruitment policy under Kenny Jackett is different to Mick McCarthy for a start, Jackett is far more strategic where McCarthy was scatter gun. The board have to have confidence in the managers signings with how they perform on the pitch, once they show good quality the board will support further investment.

We had our first summer where for a few days we were leading spending in England that we never heard the end of. To suggest we had a net spend in the top ten English clubs over a 3 year period is absurd and simply untrue, our net spend in our first season was around 13 million and 10 million in the second season which is tiny compared to most other clubs and when you factor in our bottom 3 wages we probably spent less collectively than practically every other club in the division. I'm not saying that's a bad thing as fees are disproportionate to value but lets not pretend we have ever been big spenders even by bottom half of the table teams standards. In the last transfer window before relegation that January I think our main acquisition was a 200 grand player from Iceland.

Obviously Micks signings were all in the top ten of all time as bar one season under Dave Jones which was a decade ago the last time we were in the top flight was in the 1980s where the biggest clubs on the planet were spending less than 2 million on a player

This is nonsense. Jackett has a different type of football he is aiming for and a better type of staff around him than MM for recruitment as MM went really for the old style scouting and old boys scouting network. It certainly wasn't scattergun (barring the Hoff) as I would often see and talk to Mick at games if he was watching players, usually with TC.

KJ too has the same type of eye for detail as Mick and his (KJ's) Lieutenants in the north and south had a meticulous nature about them. Many of the targets we are buying now I am sure KJ has previously watched for Millwall and has been tracking for a few years. Where Thelwell sits in this is a bit of a mystery.

Just so we're clear, what is your argument now? We should always aim for 8th place in the Championship or we should pump money in when we're in the Premier League?
