The Video Games Thread II - The Resurrection

Match Day (and MDII) and Brian Clough's Football Fortunes on the Spectrum.

I spent an inordinate amount of time on FIFA 95 on the Mega Drive. All the players however do look like Steve Corica.

Man! you are the first person I have seen mention Brian Cloughs! We have a different football managers game planned for the future so that won't be on this one, but that. However I recently remade my own cards for this game! I downloaded a version that had the board on pdf to print out along with everything else. However we updated the cards, took fucking ages but having had a quick blast it's still a right laugh to play.

Some great shouts on this, saw goal and kick off mentioned, Dino Dini who was responsible for those games is actually working on a new game, as is Jon Hare who made sensible soccer, so hopefully in the future we will have a few more footy games with an old school style feel to them.

Had Match Day II on the Amstrad, remember it being hard as hell, although I would only have been 5 or 6.

Sensible Soccer and really any version of...(even the bastardised version that has appeared on a mini mega drive in the last ten years)...BEST game ever!!!!

I have the snes version so we will be playing that, I still play swos 96/97 as you can get it from GOG.com however I only have one control pad so probably going to actually play the snes one, not sure why as can't put my finger on it but the console versions weren't quite as good as the amiga or pc ones.

They're not very good at the story modes so I have the task of completing those so they unlock more things in the toybox mode - fine by me!!

It's extremely polished, and it actually plays really well.

Just as long as you don't get into the wrong spaceship after finishing the first planet - an annoying little bug that I found out.

I've got it my oldest lad for Xmas, as I thought he'd like it being so into Star Wars at the minute (not so long back it was Transformers) - he's now obsessed with it! I'm not really sure how to play it out myself with all the game sets etc but what we have done is pretty good fun.

I also got Battlefront for me to play, not that I have any time but the couple of times I've given it a bash its pretty good fun - not that much of a gamer after many many years of not playing them

Battlefront is superb - I think it gets better the more you play it, and it's not THAT steep a learning curve.

I've sussed Infinity out, which sets work with which version of the game etc. I did find that bug - I had no idea how to get out of the space bit above Coruscant, so went back to a previous mission, tried another ship and it seemed to work fine.

Yeah thats what I ended up doing - just had a very frustrated 5 year old for a while whilst I tried to sort it out. The lad loves one of the levels in the Toy box where you go to Phinease and Ferb (sp) and can get all the different vehicles etc he usually ends up spending all his time there at the moment

Battlefront is pretty cool, and your right even with the limited time I've spent on it I managed to pick up the controls better, been mainly playing in the practice modes.

Like I say I'm not much of a gamer, apart from a few blasts on the PS1 and PS3 when they were out, the last time I was really into CG's was on my Amiga 1200, they've come on a bit since then.

Loving The Witcher 3. 20 hours in and I've still not finished the first village. Exploring EVERYTHING!

I haven't got a single player on my list on 360 now so I believe your correct..

There are plenty of really good XB1 games out there you can get for cheap as they've been out a while so it's worth doing. A great system.

I'm torn because I have about 30 Arcade and free downloaded games that I haven't really touched and half of those cant be transferred can they.

Probably not - although I'm not 100% sure so it's worth asking them.

Contemplating pre-ordering The Division so I can get the beta for free and if it's wank, cancel the order - but from what I've seen online (and I admit it's very little, which is generally a bad sign when there isn't much new material released) it looks awful. There is interfering, floating writing across the screen which puts me off and it moves and looks like a bog standard first person shooter. Destiny in the real world, if you will.

Think I'll give it a miss.
