I gave away my old hybrid bike - really wish I'd kept it and done an e-bike conversion on it.

It really is the cheap way to go. You get about 15-20 miles on a charge and that's plenty of cycling for most people. a 4 hour charge time means you can charge it to get you too and from work and 15 miles is not unreasonable at 15 mph or better especially during rush hour. Not so much now the nights are drawing in , but spring and summer is perfect. I spent under £300 pounds converting mine and its a solid reliable bike.

Thanks for the suggestions regarding the bike conversion. After much deliberation I’ve decided to place an order for one of these:

I was just browsing nonsense on Youtube and found that ^^ video, but Jesus Christ, they are actually available to order. There are some other vids on YT of these things hitting 80 mph 😳😳😳😳 Didn’t realise what a big scene there is around these extreme e-bikes.

Driving home tonight in heavy traffic I encountered two different sets of Cunts on e scooters wearing dark clothing with no lights on their machines weaving through it all like idiots and not giving a shit about how they were behaving. But motorists are Satan.

I hate e scooters with a passion, we sell them at work and I don't think anyone who's bought one you'd look at them and think yea you seem a decent lad.
We refuse to touch them for repairs (even the ones we sell) because they're always abused and fucked basically, bald tyres, no brakes, we give out flyers for a place on the Dudley road and send them to him.
We had one in today where the lad had bought it used at a "bargain" price and asked if we could look at the brakes as it wasn't stopping, calliper was there, pads in it, just no disc ! Pointed that out to him, and he just said " it's still ok to ride though? Just a bit slower yea? " shake of the head and a flyer later he zoomed off across the car park straight into the traffic, across the road and gone at a fair rate of knots

Just seen that the 100 mile route goes up The Burway out of Church Stretton. Absolutely savage climb.

The new highway code comes on this week. Priorities change pedestrians and cyclists now have priority at junctions and you have to give way to them when you’re turning left. Cue plenty of rear end shunts in cities over the next few months.
Cycle lanes not mandatory but no cycling on the pavement with two abreast cycling encouraged. It’s one of those looks good on paper ideas that I fear could cost lives . It’s bad enough for deaf people listening out for electric cars already. Also a rise in spurious claims on the cards . Dash cam is a must folks .

Tbh, there's not much difference between the new laws and the old, in fact I already interpreted the the old rules as the new are laid out pretty much.
The 'riding two abreast' law has been tweaked, that Guardian piece suggests the old one was a bit vague, personally I think it was simpler before and could lead to misunderstanding.
I think the slight change to pedestrians crossing at junctions could lead to some people having a false sense of security and would rather more attention was paid to making every individual aware of their personal responsibilities.
Of course if everyone paid attention to the first part of rule 126 i.e. drive at a speed that will allow you to stop well within the distance you can see to be clear, then many accidents and near misses could be averted.
Apologies if all that makes me sound a bit pretentious and 'holier than thou' I'm just interested in that stuff.....doesn't mean I don't make mistakes and drive perfectly all the time.

Really not a fan of the idea of stopping turning left for a pedestrian waiting to cross. If you want that put a pedestrian crossing in tend yards from the junction where that can happen without the risk of someone driving into the rear of the car that has stopped for a pedestrian in the middle of a manouvre he has signalled to car users he is completing.

I agree, as I said above in theory everyone should be able to stop without a drama but reality is different. Turning from a fast, main road into a side junction where pedestrians have right of way is madness and imo could lead to more injuries to pedestrians and more rear end shunts.

Exactly. Just what I said and my biggest concern.

But then guardian readers do as they like most of the times " freedom of choice" and all that . Bikes already do as they like in Cambridge. Now they will have protection . I advise everyone to get a dash cam. Its likely to be a difficult transition. I just don't want to see people get hurt.

The missed opportunity to mandate cycle paths is a mistake in my view.

Yep, pedestrians using phones, listening to music are not attentive at the best of times and now we give them (perceived) licence to step out into the road...

the best one today was a motorised wheelchair in town on a dual carriageway using her mobile phone.

You need to stop reading the Daily Mail Cyber. It’s no good for your blood pressure.
