Something that I will never understand. Danny Ward signs a new contract at Leicester.

I get it that Ruddy, at his age, is prepared to play second fiddle and that the Fosun money he's on would be difficult to match elsewhere but keepers in their prime? Ward is 'good' enough to command a £12.5m fee, be the standout keeper in the Championship in his one full season of football but is prepared to train every week to sit on the bench at Leicester.

Yes the money will be good, but would it be that much worse at another PL/Championship side in need of a keeper? He should have displaced Hennesey years ago for Wales (as he rarely plays between internationals either) but instead has to rely on him being injured or getting the second half in friendlies against the likes of Andorra.

I never made it to his level because I wasn't good enough, but I had a 'better' career (even on a Sunday morning). He can spend his money and I get that but what a waste. Outside of a season and a half at Aberdeen and Huddersfield, he's played 23 games in the last 10 years, 8 in the league.
Perfect for Leicester though

Difference with Ruddy is he wouldn't get a #1 gig at any PL club, not now, wouldn't have done three years ago either when we signed Rui.

Ward is better than a few first choice keepers (Ramsdale, Johnstone, Guaita, whoever Southampton feel like picking this week for sure) but is parked on the bench.
Hence me saying I could understand it from Ruddy's perspective

Ruddy has probably been on 30k minimum for 3 years. He’d struggle to get a 1/3 of that elsewhere unless it was another PL backup role - in which case what’s the point.

Championship clubs (or certainly not the ones he could go to) are paying over 10k a week.
The point I think I was making. Ruddy at his age has had a good career and will fill his boots. Ward has hardly played and I think that's a waste.

Just chose them as a generic Championship side. Insert whoever you want with 4/5 exceptions the point stands
I think there's more than 4/5 clubs in the PL and Championship that would pay 'great' wages [maybe not quite Leicester level] where Ward would be first choice.

Real are financially up shit creek, but it doesn't stop them paying Alaba a 20m euro signing bonus and 11m euros net a season for five years through to him being 34. Insanity.

Simon Jordan was bleeting on about “some of the big 6 are losing £100m a year so need to find a way to make broadcasters give them more money”
Or, here’s a radical idea, they only spend what they can afford so that they break even and cut their cloth accordingly!

This is the bit I don't understand. Perez was saying they couldn't afford to keep going at the rate they are now. It's tough shit, they should spend less and stop screwing the market.

Maybe football players and agents would stop asking for stupid wages if the clubs stopped paying them. Just a thought.

Now would be a good time for UEFA/ FIFA to bring in salary caps.

Villa not signing Barkley when his loan ends. Started the season really well and looked like a decent signing but turned out to be very meh in the end.

Heard a rumour that Covid knocked him about badly and hasn't been himself since

I must admit that I'd have taken him at the start of the season.

He did start like a house on fire for them but then an injury followed by what you have mentioned above seems to have led to their supporters renaming him Dross Barkley.

As shame really (for him not Villa) as he was/is a talented player who will never reach his full potential.

Loving the Nixon rumour for Burnley today.

Ramsdale in if someone offers daft money for Pope.
That would be some downgrade. Presume they will go after Jose should Wood leave as well.

Romano says that City want Kane.

Frightening.

He gets a lot of Arsenal news so I reckon it's do with the sale to the Spotify dude.

Decade sounds about right too if it’s Kroenke.

Chelsea plan to offer Abraham, Kepa and cash to Spurs for Harry Kane.

Tempting

Omar Richards from Reading to Bayern. How strange.
