The Things You Are HAPPY About Thread.

So from what I read, it's similar to here. We rent apartments and buy condos, and (supposedly) y'all rent flats and buy apartments.
Nope, flat is another name for an apartment. Similarly in Spanish 'Piso' is another name for 'Apartmento'.

I dread to think what 'semi' infers in the US...

you’ve got Bedsit’s/studio flat, they’re one room with a bed, tiny kitchen and a shower room with a toilet.
Flats are a lounge, bedroom, kitchen, bathroom,
Apartments are posh flats with a balcony and a bit of a view
That’s my take on it
In the UK we do tend to reagard apartments as higher end accommodation, but that's since we adopted the commonly used US term for flat.

An 18-wheel truck, by and large.

The one I think you're gesturing at is "chode", for some reason. Never understood that one, myself. Sometimes you'll hear that called a "semi" but the former slang is way more common, in my experience. Could be a regional thing.

I have found that my eyesight has been dropping off a cliff over the last few years and made the decision to ask about laser eye surgery. After my assessments I was advised to go for lens replacement. Today is the day and I'm getting it done at midday. A little apprehensive but at least I'll be able to see a lot better!
I'm ready, bring it on...

Hope it goes well for you mate

wouldn't say happy is the word, more blessed relief tbh...

mrs jelly hasn't been well for a while. was pretty certain she was diabetic some time ago. getting her to the docs to have full ranges of tests was quite challenging for a variety of reasons. Finally managed to get her in.
So they do various tests. Yes, diabetes is pretty much nailed on, however there are also numerous urgent 2 week referrals owing to "anomalies" with bones, liver, kidneys and so on. Obviously urgent 2 week referrals only happen when they suspect cancer (she's had cancer before, and had to go through intense treatments previously). Sadly, the doctors did not tell her of these concerns (tip for doctors - we can read your notes on the NHS app, including the bits where you write that you have told the patient of your concerns!)

Anyhoo, after ultrasounds, examinations, and CT scans, we've thankfully been informed today that the anomalies are down to the late diagnosis of diabetes - nothing sinister. Whilst there is damage there, it now won't get any worse, and importantly, it isn't life threatening.

Mrs jelly has brilliantly got her diabetes under control very quickly (given my dad was diagnosed in 1980, there's a great deal of knowledge and info in the family!)

There have been 6 weeks or so of genuine concern, worry and fear. She deserves so much better, as she's such an amazing woman. Now we know her health can be managed, at least we can look forwards together, in the hope the time we have isn't too limited.

I didn't know you could see that.
