The Things You Are HAPPY About Thread.

Bit of a sad git one but anyway… electric toothbrush not charging. Bloody things not designed to be taken apart and repaired, and besides, I’m a bit crap with anything electronic/electrical anyway.

Some random guy on YouTube uploads his attempts to overcome the same issue so decide to have a go. With the phone camera as a magnifier and not really sure what I was looking at, spotted a loose wire to the coil. A tiny little bit of solder later, a carefully reassemble and bingo!

Got to be pleased with saving 70 notes, not to mention keeping more crap out of landfill and that feeling of beating the system too.

I know it’s an odd one but what the heck, you have to take your wins where you can. Well chuffed.

Ya boring old twat😀
Seriously though, I love a fix on anything electrical or mechanical, it's a good feeling.

How things used to be too. (And I was born in the 80s)

Built to last and/or repairable, now we just dispose and replace. It doesn't sit well with me either 👴

As an aside, we Sainsbury's/Argos have a WEEE (waste electrical and electronic equipment) policy.

A lot of people think it only involves old batteries But when buying a new item we will recycle your existing one and keep it out of landfill.

You can do it on the day of purchase or within 28 days.

Obviously not needed now but one for future if something's "proper fucked".

Fair play. Me + a soldering iron = carnage.
I’d struggled with mine on and off for years, but it was a big clumsy fat-tipped thing. Knew I’d need a very fine one for this and the £10 spent at screwfix for their most basic model was a great investment. I know everyone goes on about the right tools for the job but that baby was a game changer.

Ha, yes, glad someone else gets it. I’m not bad at all mechanically, but with electrics, other than wiring a plug I’m pretty much done. Have done say, ceiling light replacements in the past but only if it’s exactly like-for-like wiring. If the new unit had an extra wire for e.g. that’s it, I’m stuffed.

On that note, I’m trying to get lighting in my shed/workshop at the end of the garden and am getting in a bit of a pickle. I’ll pop something on the DIY thread shortly and any thoughts would be welcome.

Yeah I'm better mechanically than I am with electrickery, all seems a bit witchcrafty to me.

That include Fridge Freezers?

Arron Banks the money behind getting brexit done and us out the UK getting his arse handed to him multiple times today by Mary Beard pre eminent Roman historian in a twitter spat about Roman salutes because that’s what musk did last night, except it wasn’t

Seven months after saw doctor about a hernia I’ve just had my op. Eventually proved to be a case of buy one ( not strictly buy as NHS), get two free as it turned out I didn’t have just one but three. On road to recovery now and hoping to make Everton game. Everyone of the staff has been wonderful.

Just got Tim Minchin tickets for June, been wanting to see him live for years so absolutely buzzing right now

Are probationary periods still fairly commonplace? I was really surprised when I started my last job that there wasn't one but then had the same when I started this job too.

I did in my contract within my current job, but it was never mentioned by my boss at any point. Having been there two years, I think I have passed it...

Never understood the probation period, doesn't the law say they can get rid within 12 months for any basic reason?

If you have a probationary period, then it defaults to your notice after that, they can't sign that off and then sack you for something which was evident beforehand. Neither can you not hold a meeting and just get rid of someone because you've not had one. It's worth putting in place for both sides. What you are thinking of is compensation above and beyond which you need 2 years for.

Opening three months, either side could say no ta for any reason and it's a week's notice.

All on standard terms now, if I did have a Paul Blades style downturn in performances they'd have to go through months of process to get rid, and they can't just decide they don't like me any more either.

Unless you really do go nuclear on your views on those players in which case gross misconduct is immediate dismissal 😃
