The Tennis Thread

Outclassed I'm afraid, 3-6, 2-6, 1-6.

No real shock. Murrays weakest surface and Nadal is a beast at the French Open.

He will have got lots of very useful points to help him up the rankings (as he got 0 here last year through not playing) and also a couple of five setters prove he is back to full fitness. Probably slightly overachieved in this tournament I would say.

Should be an outstanding final. Will be steering clear of Sharapova vs Halep tomorrow, I can't stand the noise Sharapova makes. It gets worse every year.

I think he will go up to fifth, but he has maximum ranking points to defend from queens and Wimbledon.

4/6 Nadal, 6/5 Djokovic.
I think Djokovic is the value in a match that will be decided as much by error as by winners. More impressed by Djokovic this year, Nadal for me is just a little below his best.
All kicks off today from 2 o clock.

God I really, really despise sport on ITV.

Watching the French final and they can't help but put the little black/white animated square up in the corner to indicate there's an advert coming. The thing is it's up halfway through the game not near the end of it! Why don't ITV just fuck off and stop using it? There's just no need for it in this day and age. No-one else uses it. Plus it's very distracting to notice in the corner of your eye all the time.

They also keep randomly altering the sound just before the serves to make it sound like your next to a washing machine for no apparent reason.

Dan Evans beats Jürgen Melzer in the first round at Queen's.

James Ward also through.

Seeding for Wimbledon.

Heather Watson through to the semi finals at Eastbourne, albeit with a walk over in her quarter final clash with Petra Kvitova.

Straight sets win for Murray in the first round at Wimbledon, 6-1, 6-4, 7-5 vs David Goffin.

Watching the Andy Murray winning Wimbledon programme again. A fantastic watch.

Stroll in the park for Murray vs Blaz Rola in round two. 6-1, 6-1, 6-0. Brutal.

David Ferrer out to Andrey Kuznetsov. 7-6, 0-6, 6-3, 3-6, 2-6.

Nadal a set down vs his conqueror from 2012, Rosol.

He might well still come back and win this but it's odd that he got seeded 2nd here given that Wimbledon have dispensation to do what they want within reason and he's been dreadful on grass for a while now.

Nadal through in four sets in the end. Wobbly stuff though.

Anyone tell me why every player HAS to have a spare ball in their pocket or jammed in their knickers?
Why is this rule enforced?
What's behind it?

So they don't have to have another ball chucked to them if the first serve isn't valid. Which can happen hundreds of times a match.

Is it a rule? I thought it was just something they do now. I remember Chris Evert forever asking for balls when she dumped another pathetic first serve into the net.
